We are being handed down a 2011 Imac i5.
Plan is for my wife to use it for Illustrator for vectors etc with her illustration work.
My question is, will Illustrator run happily on this system?
12gb of ram which obvs could be upgraded. Is it worth maxing it out to 32gb?
And would there be any point upgrading to a SSD?

Yeah, thats plenty of oomph for vector things. Instead of opening it up to install an ssd, just boot from an external ssd in a thunderbolt enclosure. It doesnt have usb3 but that will get you close enough, and SSDs prefer that over usb because reasons...
