If you have something else to ride in the meantime I'd personally tell them not to bother with the zip ties and hurry on with the new one.
I have other bikes to ride but not a cx and TBH I'm really missing a cx. And spring is just about my fave time of year to be thrashing about the bridleways. So I need to shit or get off the pot pretty swiftly.
Sounds to me like a good opportunity to put a season's hurt on a frame with zero care how it looks at the end of it. Really thrash it.
