  • Antiques don't count

  • Okay it's old. It is a fairly recent XTR mech though.

  • Low clamp generally used for mtbs with the ST bottle bosses lowered so it doesn’t foul them.

Praxis do a nice looking 130bcd NW in 40 and 42t. The old model with different tooth profile (think they got told off for copying someone elses) could be had cheap last time I looked.

  • Still undecided between Argos and Capo for my nice bike. As I ride steel daily I'd like to fall for the Capo a little more. 75's an improvement over Omniums but it still looks like it came out of a cracker. Post and saddle have since been swapped for something that work better (Flite sale fail...) and I suspect Zen will go in favour of something less chunky. Bars will either be acetoned or swapped for something a bit nicer looking (Shred/Thomson/carbon?) and I'm thinking a super toughness chain would look good and add a little colour. Most importantly forum frame stickers are in the post.

    Thoughts?

  • If that's a reply to @jono84 it's a touch insensitive🙂

  • Would certainly add some much needed character.

  • i'd still put alpina forks on this to close the gap and an old campag style ring - black for contrast. velosolo do them in various teeth counts and they really do last.. :)

  • I was getting a lot of toe overlap with 170mm cranks in this bike - I’ve been surprised at how much of a difference 165mm cranks has made - barely noticed it on a test ride the other day. I did notice my heel scuffing the chain stays and crank arms though, so got the tape and hairdryer out. Looks ugly, but you can’t peel off heel rub I guess :-/

  • Agree on contrast, sourced a black 7600 ring on the weekend which should do the trick. If i keep it i'd like a straight blade fork but i'm not sure i want to mess with the handling, Alpina looks good but is 10mm out. A friend has a Futura fork for sale but they're pretty fat at the headtube, Tusk at 43mm may be the safest option.

  • I think the fork is fine, add silver spokes to the black chainring and balance will be just right.

  • I guess this counts as a current project. Approx 1.5k km on it so far. Starting to look arse shaped but still rock solid... wouldn’t dare do ride >1h without bib shorts.

  • Maybe it's just the pictures, but the stem seems absurdly long.

  • Shall I use 26 2.35 Schwalbe Big Apple's or 26 2.30 Maxxis DTH on my singlespeed GT Timberline?

  • ive got my eye on one of these, how is your bum bums finding it?

  • I don't ride this bike nearly enough

  • They're great bikes, right? Cheap, Light (enough), and fast geometry.
I really want to get rid of mine in favour of something flashy, but I can't find a single reason to do it (vanity aside)!

  • Thought that 32mm vittoria randonneurs would be the biggest tyres I could fit on my genesis flyer but feel like i should have just been brave and gone for a 34.

Wish I rode my bikes enough to wear out tyres so I could experiment with different ones.

On the topic, is there a good way to get rid of the reflective walls?

  • is there a good reason to get rid of the reflective walls?

  • I had the initial idea of breaking it in 'like a man' which was put to bed after the first full day on it without a pad... I think I spent the last half of the day out the saddle my arse hurt so much.

First few days of riding it with bibs were not particularly pleasant either. Instantly comfortable in terms of shape as soon as I pointed up the nose up to stop sliding forwards. Not agonisingly painful as described above, but my sitbones were aware they had been perched on something rather solid by the end of the day.

Now at the point where it is no different to riding any other race saddle for a full day, so planning to transition from bibs > padded underwear > normal underwear > full nudes.

Construction of it is pretty amazing, put it next to any other leather saddle and it will make the other one look and feel like a cheap POS.

  • I think the best way might be to get rid of the tyres.
