Thanks for the heads-up. I'm assuming that TW is in London so it's probably easier for those involved to send to The Bike Project.
Reading Bicycle Kitchen is a similar organisation, and we are always on the lookout for a wide range of "finishing kit, contact points etc..." to help us complete donated bikes. So please keep us in mind before you junk parts that we could put back into use for people who need a bike, but don't have much to spend.
Hope no one minds the flagrant advert ;-)

Any particular type of glue? The contact area isn't that big and it's subject to some force when putting them on so I didn't think that would be strong enough.

Perfect.
Just contacted them, and they accept vintage stuff too.
I call that a massive win.

great. I might end up using your components on a bike for a refugee :)

Are there any stick-on cable guides that actually, you know, stick on and don't fall off?
-
• #96184

stick on and don't fall off?
Surface preparation is 90% of the job, if you fail at that then no adhesive will save you

Tar remover then Isoprop then dry then stick good enough? Or do I have to sacrifice a virgin too?

When did flat screen TVs become common in the UK - i.e. from roughly what date would you struggle to buy a CRT?
Cheers.

Around 2005-2006 I worked in a cash converters and we were just starting to get people selling off their old CRTs and upgrading to LCD. I think CRTs were pretty commonly available for a few years after that though.

Massive dredge... did you get a Rockbros rack?

• #96193
Cheers. That feels about right.

Tar remover then Isoprop then dry then stick good enough?
No. Solvent degreasing gets the bulk of oily contaminants off, but in the end you just create a lovely thin film of a few molecules spread over the surface if you only clean with solvents.

Hmmm. I'm able to stick things the aluminium fork crown and not have them fall off, again solvent degreasing only. What makes the frame such a difficult proposition? Or is it just that the sticky stuff these things come pre-attached to is no good?

What makes the frame such a difficult proposition?
Paint, probably.

No actually, didn't get any in the end but I was just thinking about it again the other day.

I commute on an ad hoc basis from Norfolk (specifically Watton) to London, my preferred method has been drive to Westfield in Stratford and tube into London, sadly they've just trebled the car parking to £15 a day so looking at other similar options.
Need 24 hour parking and ideally 24 hour access, £5-6 a day, anywhere in the north east corner between arnos grove and stratford really. Answers on a post card..

Thanks, I'm aware of those and JustPark etc. but i don't really want the hassle of searching/booking every time. I want a proper car park - ideally secure - that I just turn up at whenever I want and pay to park, like Westfield... close to an underground, but not £15 a day...
I have a bunch of bike stuff - frames, wheels, finishing kit, contact points etc... that I want rid of.
Rather than selling, I'd like to donate it to some sort of bicycle related charity.
Who / what / where?
