Thanks. I’m hearing quite a few stories about shit hubs and broken spokes.

Don't know anything about Hunt but I get Scherrit to build mine (factory builds = yuk) and the only thing that's stopped them so far has been cars. All the cool kids have mismatched wheels. The bigger the difference the cooler the rider...
DT Swiss 350 - £150
Kinlin/DT Rim - £50
CXRay Spokes - £60?

Yeah, I know it’s the best option, but I don’t want to spend too much on a wheel I only use with the Dynamo.
Rim is £60 - DCR 24/30 (basically a Kinlin). Spokes are the killer, quoted at £80 for the wheel.

Aren’t you using it for hours and hours of riding though? And sounds like your other set could use a new back. I wouldn’t want to be out on Achill at 1am fixing a spoke
-

What's actually wrong with the one you have and why do you only use it with a dynamo?
Also, the next step down in spokes is cheaper and just as good. I'm just a habitual CX Ray buyer.

I have a DT Swiss set, but I bought them second hand and the rear had a few dings on the spokes. Since then I have put my rear mech into it so I don't have 100% confidence in it. If I get one to match my dynamo front I would prob still use the DT Swiss for normal weekend rides etc.
Good point @stelfox - All being well I will have done at least 3000km on it by mid June so I can prob justify the purchase.

I've done that to a few wheels now. Not had any troubles yet but I guess it depends how much it took out of the spokes and what spokes they are. Also most of my wheels are 32h and well-built so I don't have to worry so much losing a spoke or three in an accident.

New wheels time - it's been ages since I bought a set (have been using up spares...)
So - Road bike. 95% tarmac riding on undulating terrain with some fairly short and sharp climbs on my normal routes. And I'm closer to 80kg than I'd like.
I'm pairing these with my first Disc brake bike (CAAD12) - it's not an aero race bike so no need for anything deeper than 35-40mm. And tyre width will only ever be 28-30mm max
Something like the Zipp 30 Course DB wheelset looks the goods - but - other options? Less pricey? Or more pricey, but better? So many options it seems and I'm out of the loop with current tech.
Would go hand built, just need to find a good builder in Sydney. Otherwise I've always been happy with factory. Wouldn't mind something just a bit fancier than the Fulcrums the bike comes with.
Cheers and I appreciate any suggestions.

appreciate any suggestions
Wait for the stock wheels to break.

Wait for the stock wheels to break.
Logical and sensible. Thanks.
Now, how about once the stock wheels break?
What would be a good replacement? Hypothetically of course. -

Havenae tried many wheelsets but I had HED Ardennes on my caad12 and liked them a lot

Whatever you can get a deal on, that fits and rolls.
Wheels are the most discussed and least interesting thing on a bike.

China Carbon, wide, 40 to 60 deep.

Good suggestion. They would work well. Thanks

I am in the game for a new road wheelset to replace some stock Aksiums. I was thinking Hunt Aerolight Disc but there is also a good offer on some DT Swiss PR 1600 Dicut 21 Disc on Merlin. What do you guys think? Any other recommendations for disc, road, semi aero, ~1.4-1.5kg, tubeless?
-
• #8393
If it was me I'd get some Chinese carbon wheels in about 400 depth and no less than 25 wide. None of the wheels you're looking are wide and deep enough to be aero.
If you want alloy maybe something wide and aero-ish like Stan's grail or Pacenti -
• #8394
Well semi aero so basically not a box rim. Weight is more important to me.

3t discus pro- yea or nay?
Was looking for something in the same ballpark as Hunt or ProLite (can't be fucked spending 3hours removing the graphics on those tbh) so these are similar and On Sale...

After some carbon clinchers. Around the 50mm mark (depth wise). Rim brake. Any suggestions? Preferably by from the UK. Not entirely fussed with weight and looking at somewhere around £500-800 mark. Ta.

Bought them, returned them
Heap of shite wheelset that weren't worth £200 let alone 6.
Now got brand new OG 2015 vintage HuntXMasons and very happy with thrm.
Really like my Hunts, have the Mason set and also the 4 Season rim brake set. No problems with mine.
My partner, however, who owns a set of the race aeros has had a broken spoke on one wheel and now the other is with Hunt for a possible warranty replacement as the hub is totally fucked after not even a year's riding. Probably nothing to do with the build quality though, more him running them into the ground.
