  • I did, I’m now riding a 2014 Genesis Fugio
It’s a CX race frame unlike the new heavy 650b adventure bikes by the same name.
44mm head tube, Reynolds 853, steeper head tube. Rides just like a road bike but it will fit 42c tyres

  • Oooh sounds like a lovely little upgrade, sounds well faster and better handling than the pinnacle

Edit: that said, just came back from a ride and goddamn the Arkose is a smashingly decent steed

  • Who did Grinduro? There's a good, although small, pic of peeps wearing that NLTCxxx kit in the new Cyclist Offroad mag.

  • New Brother gravelly bike with a silly name coming this summer.

  • Into 2019! now next question is whether they stick with the old geometry or not.

  • Do you mean Kepler geo?

  • I'm considering bikes for some gravel/CX riding plus some touring/bikepacking, and then maybe also using it on winter club rides...

the nukeproof digger pro and the vitus energie CRX have caught my eye... any steer between those two ?

  • Just get an Arkose.

  • If your looking for bargain / good value aluminium, arkose really is the best option imo.

  • ...

the D1 and D3 do look good actually...............

  • BUILT THROUGH EXPERIENCE

the experience of always having a too short head tube

  • Longer than surly tho.

  • Agreed. I can’t really name a bike with the same specs that comes close to the arkose for same price point.

  • Monster cross - >>>

  • Goddam it was a nice day for a gravel commute. Calves in the barns to moo at, tractors tucked away so no dodging needed- I was loving my new gravel farm track commute today. Strade de Marrone as it’s all a bit cow sh** and mud spattered

  • By their history and the looks of it. No.

  • That Vitus is a bit limited, they can only take 35mm tyres, and on paper they're a good bike but in my opinion having had 4... They're too fragile to ride off road, 2 of the frames I had cracked (3rd was the wrong size), also the service from CRC was a lacking for numerous reasons. Oh and the wheels were terrible and taco'd in no time, and the hubs poorly sealed.

  • The carbon one? I have the alloy and there's clearance for 45, maybe 50 and the wheels are good, if heavy. Novatec sealed bearings units in WTB ST rims. The rims are heavy, MTB-like, yet I have smashed several tires on rocks and still not a ding

  • Got another pushback email about a steel Ribble I ordered a couple of months ago today. Citing fork supply as the issue, bit disingenuous given they were saying SRAM was the issue April becomes May.

I don't want to be one of those folk who bleat on social media about not getting good service, oh wait...

  • Ive been about to order one of these for a while but this is putting me off, given this and the recent price rise I might just go for a 2018 croix de fer instead

  • Should be picking my Arkose up this week, an eBay purchase that needs some love, but looking forward to it.

Now Mrs. 116 is telling me "its time" she had a bike with gears, anyone any recommendations? I'm clueless with these new fangled bikes and gears. After something with 1x11 as the less mechs to go wrong the better. Not sure if she'd fit on my 52cm Arkos as she is 5'6" so prob a bit of a push which is a shame as it would give me an excuse to upgrade my frame.

  • anyone any recommendations?

    Arkose

  • Gotcha.

If I was still a contractor tax dodger I'd just buy this and expense it... because she uses it to ride to the post box for my company to post a letter once a quaterolol.

  • The carbon one?

    Yes the carbon one.

I don't think the rim structure is the issue, but the fact that they weren't built particularly well/pretensioned properly.

And I've seen the alu one they look like a good bike, certainly if you're getting platinum discount.
