I've got a Wolf Tooth narrow wide chain ring and chain has come off quite a few times even on road, albeit mainly downhill, fast and a bit rutted.

Used Hope and Raceface, never had a problem with the chain dropping off. Some use off road, mainly on road, but still never had a problem (touch wood, not a euphemism).

Might try those next time then, as Wolf Tooth wasn't the cheapest either. No idea how different the designs are. I also wonder if they become less effective with wear.
