  • i just figured 140mm drop was a bit much for the daily le tour de fuck you*

    *i still ride my slammed supersix to work sometimes for CS8 chopperism

  • But for commuting... how far do you go? Do you spend much time in the drops?

    Seems like excuse to me for not doing the correct thing! ;)

  • Such an uncomfy bike

    Who buys a caad for comfort? Only buy them look fast right?

    I only ever ride for 2 hours max so comfort doesn't matter

  • Comfort in terms of bike fit or comfort in terms of harsh ride?

    My CAAD 8 on 28's was hella comfy

  • I can sit in the saddle all day on mine.. Here’s a pic of me on said bike at around mile 80 in France after a long day going up and down. It’s all fit if you weigh anything under 75kg imo. If you have a soft arse then get a carbon post or even one with some set back for a bit more give

  • Fwiw it has taken me a while to get the fit to being perfect for me with no aches or pains having been through a few different bikes with different geos. Have had some expensive carbon bikes in the past and felt they have given harsher rides..

  • Comfort in terms of harsh ride. Fit is all important regardless of ride duration!

  • I just run >80psi which seems to solve the harsh road vibes

  • Cool, I rode a non disc caad12 today, again in 54. It's deffo too big. 52 will be a much better option. Hope the store can swap it out... They're chasing a 52 from another shop but not 100%.
    The test bike today had 25mm Vittoria corsas on. Ride quality was very nice. 28s should be perfect.

  • I like my sofa and bed to be comfy, road bikes not so.

  • You mustn't ride very far

  • Try the Allez sprint with 23mm tyres, you’ll need your sofa and bed to be comfier to compensate.

  • Rebuilt this a few winters ago

    then last year it started to become pretty uncomfortable so I fitted a setback seatpost and it actually made a big difference (I have long femurs so I guess it actually relaxes my position a little).

    Anyway, serious back issues arose and I hung this (and my other bikes up) for close to a year.
    Rehab's going well, feeling stronger in my core and can commute to work by bike more often so it's time to get this rig rolling again. Found a rather amazing new handlebar from Soma:

    50mm rise, 25º backsweep. A slightly insane 780mm width that I might have to trim down for the mean streets. Test-ride was all good, just waiting on some other goodies and then I'll throw up a full bike pic.

  • Is that a Martyn Ashton frame? That was my dream bike back in the day!

    My only amend would be some old-school yellow Magura rim brakes but otherwise it is looking great. Loving the Race Face cranks as well.

  • Spotted this for sale on FB, guy is sick of people hating on his frame.

  • Yeah, 1999 Martyn Ashton CAAD 3. I did used to run Maguras on it years ago, but they were silver with a SID Blue booster. Even had blue DMR V8s on it back then:

    Always thought the flouro yellow would clash with the primary yellow of the graphics.

  • Agreed, if I was doing back to back 200kms i'd flip my stem on my hi-mod and squeeze in some 28mm tyres

  • Sounds ideal for fast 20/40/60 mile rides

  • I've always wondered what the deal was with CAAD 8's. I remember when I first started looking at road bikes ~2007 these were entry level bikes, I guess kinda like the CAAD Optimo. Was the CAAD 8 reserved for a lower-end road bike, or was there a previous version that succeeded the CAAD 7 as a high end model? Never understood this!

  • Those made in the USA caad8s were good, the Taiwan ones were low(er) end

  • Thought this might be the right place to ask - anyone got any SiSL cranks they’d like to sell me?

    Where are Cannondale bikes made?
    Cannondale frames are all made in America, at our factory in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Beware, incidentally, of frames boasting Designed in USA decals with lots of American flags. Most often, bikes sporting such decals are actually mass-produced in the Far East. Pretty lame.
