Rode my Arkose with the hydros and big tyres properly for the first time yesterday. Hoo boy that bike is fun

Speaking of which, still got this taking up space

+1, that is a truly awful picture. use a longer lens for chrissake so the bike isn't distorted. put it straight. use the refine edges tool in photoshop so your crappy cutout isn't crappy. jeez
that's why.
it looks like it's melting, and what's with the 'shadow' underneath? -

So I'm pretty sure it's the D1 I want. Is it ridiculous not to buy the R1 considering this bike will only be used on the road for 20 mile commutes and also the odd century at the weekend and some touring? I do plan on sticking some 32c slick tyres on there but not changing anything else. It's literally come down to liking the look (colour) of the D1 more.

Didn't really look at it closely. Now I do, it's also only got the right half of the handlebars, one stop further than a Cannondale lefty.

Medium - 56cm

far to small for me :(

Definitely

I might just put some risers and flat pedals on it

flat bar cross is the next big thing, what size 650b can you get on it?
-
• #7463
Don't know, I don't have any smol wheels. I tested horizons in it once with plenty of space left. I do have some knobbly 650b tyres knocking around for a future (probably never) build but no wheels

how long is the HT?

Finished my project for winter riding, late for this winter but maybe I will also mount normal CX tyres and ride it throughout the year as well.

Does anyone do a 12 or even 13 or 14-40T cassette?
Trying to get some easier gears on a Tiagra 4700 groupset with a GS rear mech. 50-34 front so a 11-40 (with road link) would put it at 45T when the capacity is 41T.
Will it work ok past capacity or if not, is there a cassette out there that starts at 12 or higher? Top end speed is not an issue and it's not my bike so I really don't want to have a situation where is a risk in certain gears.

Be easier to use a praxis Alba 48/32 chainset.
Gears will shift cleaner, not huge jumps on the gears etc
I use 48/32 with an 11/32 and find it good, will go 11/34 when this cassette wears out - didn’t originally because 105 spec 11-34t wasn’t out, just ultegra so more than I wanted to spend
- edit, you can get the 4700gs to work with 36t happily in my experience.

i have a 48/32 with 11/30 and its pretty good tbh. 32t would be great too.

It would be ideal to change both, but budget wise and £ for gear ratio, putting a 40 on the back would get an easier gear than a 32 at the front. Actually 34-40 is even easier than 30-34.

You could just swap your 50t for a 46t.

Do they do a 46T chainring for Tiagra? I got a cx chain set on bike (ultegra) for this very reason, but the bike in question is replacing a mtb with mega easy gearing and is already at the top of the budget so I'm just trying to get as easy a gear as possible without breaking the bank.
Has anyone actually tried exceeding the capacity? If I size the chain for 50-40, is the worst case that it will be too loose if you cross chain in 34-11?
-

if the crankset is 4700 as well, you could look into getting some oval chain rings instead - someone (I think Doval maybe?) does a 46-30 for compact 4-bolt. If that's not an option for you, then 46-34 with an 11-40 would be my suggestion as well.

Oops, I had forgotten about silly Shimano bolt pattern. A 46t chainring seems to be nearly £100 :(

The mech will collide with the cassette if there's too much slack. Take the chain off the chainrings and see what happens to the mech when you pull the chain through.

Ugly as sin, but cheaper
30T inner would also make the 11-40 debatable.
Never felt the need to upgrade over Apex1.
