I think that figure is wrong. My whippet plays with a Jack Russel quite regularly and the JR has no chance in a race.
I think we need a dog racing thread for this.

4 + 10 mile runs in, and I'm very much liking my Adidas Solar Drive Boost. Shit name for a shoe but very comfy, and getting back to the feel of the Glide Boost what they don't make any more. Boost + full length EVA midsole make for a firm-ish but responsive ride. And half the price of replacing my Brooks Ghost.

Yeah, no way can a jrt keep up with a whippet.

Why not? I buy pretty much everything secondhand and have never had trouble. The mad thing is that loads of people seem to sell shoes after a single 5k run. There's a Facebook group called running gear for sale and it's full of pairs around the £40 mark that have been used once or twice.
Coupled with the atrocious conditions for people making shoes and the ridiculous amount of pairs for sale in barely used condition I see it as a positive thing to do!

I actually did stop a couple of times, but I was feeling impatient and didn't want to lose my flow so maybe didn't' wait long enough. As soon as I started again it would be straight back at my ankles.
Wasted a fair few seconds on it.

for me the problem is that that one 5k run is could easily be 50k, and your £20 off the retail price is suddenly not such a great deal, given you were complaining upthread about a pair of shoes with not many miles on having worn through is evidence you've been sold a bit of a porky pie in the past...
fair point about poor conditions of manufacturing and not wanting to create waste though.

It's a fair point about that last pair - I'm kind of amazed it happened as they literally looked unworn when they arrived. My gaffa tape fix is enough for a comfortable 10k, so they might just be my short and fast shoes for now.

Just a quick check, but to be clear, it's a dog owners responsibility to keep them under control and not attack runners...
Sorry if you already knew that.

55 miles for the week so far, all in my new shoes which I'm liking a lot. Hugely encouraging run today, minimum target was completing 20 miles without feeling too awful. As it turns out I was running for most of it with a club mate who's in good form and pushing the pace faster than I'd planned, but my legs weren't complaining so I went with it. 20 miles @ sub-3 pace, actually not feeling too broken right now!

Things are looking up then. good to hear. So you're around for the national 12 stage?
we had the southern road relays today at Milton Keynes. The short story is that any of today's top 6 teams would have won last time the race was held there. Our club B team, who finished 24th would have finished 11th the last time etc...
I ran ok, had a dodgy mile in mile 4 but worked as hard as i could. a few more proper tempos and sessions in there would have helped. i do think i got distracted by the data from my watch at one point - too much clicking through screens and thinking about what the average pace thing was telling me. roll on Sutton Coldfield.

Good work, impressive from A,B and C teams. How's the hip?
I'm just beginning to contemplate racing again, although the National relays are the week before Brighton so I didn't consider it would be a great idea for my foot, and have now committed to dog-sitting! All being well I'd like to turn out for Assembly League in a couple of weeks. -

Was just making sure that you guys knew how to avoid making a bad situation worse.
No amount of identifying who is at fault will stop you getting bitten. Animals can be unpredictable after all. Even the best trained ones. And in the very unlikely event that you encounter a genuinely threatening dog of reasonable size, kicking it or shouting at the owner will probably make things far worse.
Didn't mean to come across as siding with the dog owner. That wasn't my intent. Genuinely felt it was important to mention what to do if a dog chases you.

Hip is improving - it doesn't hurt if I am only moving backwards and forwards, lateral motion is a different matter.
I've got two weeks to get fit for a long at Sutton Park. I'm already dreading the dogleg.

I've come across excited dogs mid tempo run before, doing what you suggested and it works. Bit annoying, but not as annoying as being bitten

Now that's is going to be interesting!
I was wondering to myself this afternoon when the next one was coming up and thought it should be soon. She's got the chops; I guess it's a case of how she will do in a different environment to what she runs normally. -

THanks. that's a good read.

Been sick with cold all week so not got out once 🙁 going to test out the pipes tomorrow with a gentle turn around Hampstead Heath
Imagine the cadence they must achieve to hit 38 mph!
