underrepresentation of minorities. 100%
control of global corporations requires government intervention. you know what stops that happening, under-representation of minorities in government, because of under-representation in schools and jobs.
the we can't do anything about [achievable goal] until [something that will never happen and actually has no direct correlation with the goal itself] mindset is probably the best possible way to ensure nothing ever changes or improves, look at the last GE, labour provides costed policies that would help everyone that needs it the most, and it was shot down by people saying "well it's not going to eliminate debt" and instead voted for the tories who said nothing about improving anything for anyone except their mates whilst raising the public debt up at an almost previously unheard of rate anyways. it might not have eliminated public debt, but it would have made the country better off in a number of ways not measured by that one metric.
it's a handy way of making it sound like you're for the thing you're dismissing while actually making sure it never happens so you can still get to sleep at night, it's very popular.

Someone tell me how to feel please.
Guilty pleasure, or perhaps not that guilty since Marvel does sometimes ponder big questions though its mainly the exploding planets that make the money whether or not the film address 'issues'.
And as someone said, Stan did bring a social conscience to his comics and seems an alright guy.
I love the Marvel stuff and have invested in the 20 MCU films and all the series, just coz I enjoy it and they do it well. Bring on Avenger Endgame...

So right wing edge lords are complaining about Captain Marvel but so are left wing edge lords.
It’s a film, with a strong female lead, pew pew lasers, people that can fly and spaceships. Enjoy it or not for what it is. Do you really need to evaluate everything Stan Lee did in order to know if your moral conscience will let you enjoy this film?

I have 0 interest in superhero movies, but it can only be a good thing that there is more variety in the lead roles.
Under the silver lake: Uneven in tone (are we satire? mystery? thriller? The mix doesn't quite come together), and the main character is poorly acted with little character development.
On the other hand, there were some interesting scenes and characters, it is well shot, there are some cool set pieces and there is originality in the mix. So I don't think it is a complete success, but you may just enjoy it.

I'm going to see Border tonight. It looks weird.

I wasn't being entirely serious about needing a full backstory on every executive involved in the film in order to enjoy it.
It's not really my sort of thing but if there's a social good aspect to it then I'm happy to go and see it in the cinema for a couple of hours of light entertainment and the odd laugh. If not I'll just watch it on some streaming service in a year or not watch it at all. Just was wondering if anyone had any more developed opinions on the subject.
I didn't know about any of the right-wing backlash, I guess because it's totally not interesting or surprising in any way. I suppose if little right-wing babies are crying about people going to see it then that's a good enough reason for me

vice.
not exacatly a great movie, but as far as a portrayal of one of the most calculating, mendacious, straight up nasty characters of the modern american century goes, you could do a lot worse.

Sicario 2.
A bit like the first, gripped the whole way through, but unsure what I felt at the end.
Also wonder if I've been spoilt by box sets - was all like, "right, let's put the next one on".
Also did have any subtitles, and although my Spanish is OK, my Mexican slang isn't (or sign language for that matter)... reminds me of when I tried to what Profit without subtitles.
Considering watching the first and second again.

First one is great, second one I thought was a bit of a mess.

I’m not gonna say I cried, as such, but I was in so much awe that I think my eyes started to, eh hem, water a couple of times. The human race is incredible and the film made me feel very lucky to be here to witness some of history.

Looking forward to Us, in the diary for Friday week.
We watched Into The Spider-Verse last night, it was great in every way, I enjoyed it far more than Captain Marvel

Went to the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival last night and saw 3x short bikepacking films which were all pretty amazing. the 3 films were. 1. 'lowest to highest' 2. 'ice and palms' 3. 'divided' which you can read about here https://shaff.co.uk/shaff19/bike-packing-films
Found the second one on youtube and I'd say that was my favourite if anyone wants something to watch for half an hour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzyK5qr-WC0

Just came out of Us which Mrs EB wanted to see. I didn't really like Get Out and this was equally heavy handed and lazy. Meh. 4/10

I went to see "Us" last night at Hackney Picturehouse. What a stressful film! Loved it but brrr sweaty hands. Go see on a big screen.

Us is remarkable, Peele can do no wrong.

Us, going against the two people above. Get out was fantastic from Jordan Peele. Us first hour was great then it got drawn out, a bit boring and I was just looking for them to wrap it up.
Fine if you want to research a film afterwards, but the ending left me a bit like meh. Personally think it could have been finished a lot better instead of leaving a bag full of questions you’ve gotta look into.
Considering the cast and the director I just feel it was trying to be far too clever
They'll get the money whatever, better that it does some good on its way to them
