  • Hi mind me asking which model of extender seatpost you have there? Just got in the Brompton game and the ti seatpost that came with it is a bit short. Cheers!

  • So I’ve bought a brompton which has a lovely ti seatpost (standard length) which is a bit short. Is there anything I can retro fit to this to extend it? Or do I need to buy a new seatpost? As far as I can tell there is a standard length (520), extended length (590) (which should be fine for my 32” inside leg) and a telescopic one.

But I can’t find anything that you can retro fit to a standard length seatpost to give you a few extra inches but perhaps I’m missing something.

  • If you need the extra height/length then you’ll probably need the extended seatpost. If the standard is just a bit too short you can use the seat holder/clamp and just have it sit slightly higher than normal on the end of the seatpost. That’s your only fudge I’m afraid.
I use it with my extended seatpost as that’s just a tiny bit too short for me.
There’s nothing that will give you a couple of extra inches of leeway, apart from raising or lowering the seatpost.

  • Arse. Thanks for the confirmation though! Standard length ti seatpost up for sale soon then!!

  • get the jtek Ti post, its the best

  • Extended seatpost s are pretty cheap unless you desire the ti option. Then they get pricey pretty quickly. Ti workshop ones are pretty nice, and not too pricey as long as you don’t want pretty colours..

  • Hmmm there is a pretty big difference between £60 for a standard extended post and nearly £200 for ti... wonder if I’d be able to tell the difference on a blind taste test. Having not ridden a Brompton before I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

  • It’s an old telescopic, the chrome on the new ones is a bit shit.

  • Visiting the smoke today and brought a friend.

  • my advice,

flog that one on ebay, £75-125, buy a £30 black extended. Then spend the rest on a service. New seatclamp etc. Check for hinge / sleeve wear!

  • talk to me about that bag ....

  • finished up another, nickel, tan walls, custom painted ti forks/triangle for secrets, hubsmith rear hub.

Alfine build coming week after next, holiday comes first!

  • I got one for weight savings, and it was cheap. Was willing to save up for the ti workshop rainbow seatpost. But you can find ti extended seatpost for under £100, maybe not as nice as ti workshop. And if you sell the standard, you can make up the difference..

Entirely your choice. I have a steel extended which you can have for a decent price?

  • Is there a discernible weight difference between the normal painted vs nickel vs raw lacquer main frames?*

*just curious - I'm not actually considering buying with that in mind!

  • Nope! All 2kg plus minus a few grams

  • Working with Hulsroy on painting and gild Decals on his latest frame.

    Practiced on my Brompton ...

23ct gold gilding with some one shot borders... realise I now have my initials in gold on my Brompton....hmmm..

  • Just cut off the tab!

If you want to roll the bike, fit a rack - use an RJT One of sjs for &40 with decent sized wheels

Thanks will look into that tab business...

I do have a rack, the only thing preventing smooth supermarket rolling is the front wheel resting too low. Will have to consider bigger roller wheels, and get smaller tires when the marathon plus are dead (gonna be ages!)

  • Just doing some real world testing now, needs some little changes needed but it’s a great bag and will be fully waterproof. I expect it should be rolled out in the not too distant future. Do you guys do Restrap already? It’ll likely be the same deal as carradice as they can’t get frames. Retail should be around £130-140 without frame.

  • Man. I am so into that.

We don’t do Restrap currently, being sold to wiggle and such we don’t fancy it, ortlieb and Carradice cover most bases.

I’d love Restrap in the company, but going to wiggle is a let down for me personally.

  • We don’t do Restrap currently, being sold to wiggle and such we don’t fancy it, ortlieb and Carradice cover most bases.

Pretty sure ortlieb are on there as well. Bit hypocritical?

Wiggle took Restrap on in the early days, without wiggle they might not have been able to grow as they have done.

    Don’t see the problem really.

  • Pretty sure ortlieb are on there as well.

    Worse, Evans.
    Shudders

  • I’m not saying it’s a bad move, clearly wiggle would have been able to enable the brand to exist, ortlieb goes hand in hand with touring and we can stock all the spares, which is the biggest reason sjs is doing well.

Again, I’d love to have Restrap, but without spare parts, right now I think we would just compete with others to a pricepoint rather than add something to the scene.

  • Also, unlike their panniers the ortlieb bike packing stuff is a non-event.

  • Brompton are on their as well. Shit the bed.
