• I like my 37c marathon supremes, roll really nicely, super comfy at around 40psi and the front looks like new after about a thousand miles. No punctures I'm aware of either, if the finishline sealant is as shit as it's meant to be I've actually had none.

  • How else would I become KING OF GRAVEL

  • Could do worse than Specialized Sawtooth. What’s wrong with G ones?

  • G ones wear out quick .

  • G-ones are expensive (Simm works never again), and I want something preferably with gum walls. I've got a pair of marathon supreme, they're not exactly supple, but they are bomb proof. I had a look at the Specialized Sawtooth but they're not as slick as I'd like, Specialized also do a 45mm slick, but it isn't tubeless. Maybe Gravelkings are the best option?

  • I was looking for something similar a little while back and could only find 2 tyres that fit the bill: Sim Works Volummy and gravelking slick TLC. As far as I can tell they're essentially the same tyre but one has a sim works logo on and costs twice as much. Had to buy the GKs from Germany since I couldn't find any UK stockists but they're great tyres, I've been commuting on them tubeless since October/November.

The specific ones I bought were RF738-GK-D. There's a million different gravel kings and it's sometimes not obvious what ones the website has unless they list the model number.

  • GKs don’t seem to wear out.

  • Cheers, that's that settled!

  • Best place for valves then ? Not just the screw in bit.

  • Cut em out of old tubes. Leave a small circular rubber at the bottom.

  • Is anyone on Conti GP5000 tubeless? I’m thinking about giving them a go but would appreciate some real life reviews.

  • I ran them for 2500km I we winter and the rear squared off. A few punctures that lost all air quickly, grips is decent in all conditions, they do feel very low drag but the wear rate is too high for me.

  • If I have alex rims at470 http://www.alexrims.com/products/at470/ which are described as 'tubeless ready' what do I have to have to run them tubeless? There's already some kind of thing running down the middle, looks like

Is that 'rim tape' ? So Maybe I just need valves and sealant?

Also whats a nice commutery tyre that'll come up at about 30 mm maybe a bit more?

  • I’ll echo @cycleclinic here. I really like how the 5000’s roll (I’m a long time user of 4000’s too) and they are fast with really good grip. The downside is that the wear rate is high. They cut easily too.

I’d have no issue running them on the best bike, but for commuting or things like audax, they’re expensive.

  • That looks like normal rim tape to me, so they’ll need tubeless tape first

  • What's the recommended sealant? 700x40mm tyres.

I've got stans is that good? Also does sealant go off, as I've one orange sealant that's a year old.

  • Stans is my default option, Caffelatex also seems good, the Finish Line stuff is useless. The latex based ones including Orange do dry out eventually and will need scraping out/replacing.

  • I've got Stans in a bottle that's well over a year old and it's fine

I suspect you wear out tyres long before the sealant gets a chance to dry out in them :-)

  • Thanks both. I'll just use the stans as I know it's new

  • Just don't forget to agitate it before chugging it into the tyre. I always forget this

  • Another Caffelatex user here, seem to need to top it up every month or so. Whether it dries out, leaks or seals punctures without me noticing

  • Noted thanks. I think I'll go over to a friends and get them to show me how it's done first time.

  • If you need any help, I’ve got everything you’d need.

  • Want to come over and show me! Or I can come to you. Please :)

Fyi you wernt the friend o was referring to! But you are a friend and closer than the other one ha
