Yes, this sounds great! Might bring the Hobbs with Osgear!

This sounds like a great route to do, yes, and may sounds like about the right time of year. I doubt I'll get my Simplex Carlton painted and built up in time so will be doing it on Sturmey 3 speed hub (close ratio unless I get a different wheel no less), but assuming I can get it fettled up and not slipping I''m sure I could manage, should be entertaining. I never was much one for spinning anyway, so I'll just have to toughen up and grind my way up those climbs....

Cool, so I'll just have to pump the tyres of my Holdsworth and a bit of cleanup.
I'm in.

Errr, I'm not sure about that!
I'm expecting to see your Gillott.
I was looking at it on the Gillott Facebook page only the other day, it's a great looking frame. Bring it as a work in progress? -
• #1381
We're talking about hills! :)
I'll try my best to finish it though, as I'd love to see it on the roads, even if with the frame in current conditions.

If I can do it on a Sturmey close ratio, you can do it on a Gillott, surely.? How's the Gillott getting built up?
-
• #1384
It's not. I'm stuck where I was before.
No progress at all unfortunately. -
• #1385
All right all right, will try my best to bring the Gillott

Great.
What needs to be done to get it road worthy? -
• #1387
I think they main problem are the wheels. They need to be fixed got themm but they don't look road-worthy or safe.
Got everything else already, handlebars, brake and lever, chain, chainset, stem, seatpost and saddle and pedals. Albeit nothing is clean, but it's ok. Let's call it heavy patina.
Main issue, a part from wheels, is putting cotterpins in.
You can see here, as you might recall, got plenty of stuff for it and the Holdsworth: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/13917640/

Anyone got a date in mind? Early June?
-
• #1389
I can do late May or late June, but not early or mid-June as I'll be abroad :)
-
• #1390
Late May sounds good to me!
-
• #1391
By that I mean either the bank holiday weekend or the one right after, i.e. VERY early June.
-
• #1392
Hope to see you there with the Sprinter attached to something!
-
• #1393
Yep I remember it was a great hoard. Have you got the cotter pins, I would suggest new if you haven't got them already.
If you need a hand fitting the cranks im happy to help -

Hi Peter
Be could to see you there.
I have just purchased a B17 Sprinter, not sure of age but it's in good condition, it was a bargain so I couldn't resist.
The sprinter I bought from you was a B47. I assume the difference would be the aluminium cantle plate.?

Yeah I should order a pair from Hilary as I did for the ones on the Holdsworth.
As for the help on fitting, I'd be glad to take on your offer. Appreciated!

it doesn't say Sprinter on the B47. I hadn't even noticed.
It's a Champion Model.

Early June or late May should work for me as far as I'm aware, will probably be on the RRA again unless I feel very brave and bring my Paragon as a fixed gear, or find a sturmey asc (of tf) for a decent price to fit to it before then....

One date I really cannot come is Sunday May 26th - that's my club's open 100 and I have to be there.
-
• #1399
Let's aim for the first weekend of June than?
I just realised that on that bank holiday I really can't do anything at all as gf's in town for a loong exam -

A Simplex TdF mech will certainly take a 22 tooth bottom and I have heard claims that it can manage slightly bigger - so surely that's not 'very close ratio'?
Since we have ruled out attempting the Christmas Common climb I don't think very low gears are really going to be necessary.
If I could get the bits I need for this in time (funds allowing), could well be up for this. Would be fun(?) to see how having only five speeds will kill me.
