Yep, I have the same on my CAAD12 after a fairly big off. It's been fine for a few hundred miles since.

Got exactly the same on my CAAD7 which I’ve been riding for years now. Total confidence descending 40mph+ and giving it beans up the climbs. Not a problem

I just did something silly but also good. Good bit is that I put a deposit on a caad12 disc ultegra. LBS had a 54cm in there, on sale for $2100 aud. (£1120!) Couldn't say no. Set up to my spec I had 110mm seat post out. Felt fine but would like more standover. Reach was fine.
But, got home and reading the Geo charts closely I reckon I could get away with a 52cm with a -15mm setback post and slightly longer stem. To get the same fit as the 54.
Is this a stupid plan?
And yes, internet bike fit.

Due to the pretty level top tube, the Caads tend to have higher stand over requirements for each size.
I had a 48 caad and super six and both of those worried me with stand over height compared to other bikes. -

i have a 54cm CAAD12 disc, it has a 57cm seat tube, which is fine for me as i normally have loads of seatpost hanging out. Also worth noting if it has the Shimano RS685 hydraulic shifters they are 10mm longer than a cable brake version, i have to run a shorter stem to account for that.
The 52cm isn't actually much smaller in terms of reach but it has less stack so bear that in mind.

I used to run a 52, then a 54 CAAD. The 52 obviously had more post and 20mm more stem, but both looked like they were set up 'normally'. I wouldn't be concerned with stand over. I'd be more concerned with the amount of post showing on the 54. You know when there isn't enough :)

You can get away with a fistful of seatpost on a Caad, as long as its slammed at the front of course.
-
• #11084
On a 54 that looks bad though, and we know what's important here!

15cm seatpost bare minimum

• #11086
Well, as Acliff says - setup correctly I'd have a fistful of post. As for slammage... I already pulled the -17º 110mm stem of my old CAAD8 frame so I reckon that'll go straight on.
I did have a look at my old cdale setup. Inline post with 110mm showing and a relatively tall SMP saddle
I guess I could go either way but I fear that the 54 has a very narrow window of fitting correctly.

ye olde bike for reference. A 54 CAAD 8. Fit well, loved how it rode.

Looking at these I'm a bit disappointed the bike I have purchased is plain old silver.

It has the ultegra 8020 shifters. Wonder how they compare to normal SRAM rival?
Think I may stop via the LBS tomorrow and see if they can get a 52 from another store to compare. -

From the picture above it looks like a 52 might be the better size for you.

you might be right. I'll see what bike shop says. I should at least get the chance to try out both.
BTW, thanks for everyones input!

• #11096
Not a lot of proper stem slammage happening on these last few pics. If you've gone with the 54 over a 52 I'd expect zero stack on the headset cover for max points.

Mine was fairly slammed. Such an uncomfy bike. Stiff all the things. Fast though
-
• #11098
54 Caad12 should be a pretty similar geometry to the Caad8 no?
Caad12 has 7mm higher standover height, 7mm shorter stack, 8mm longer reach

i purposefully haven't slammed mine as much as my supersix to make it a bit easier for commuting
