    Hi all,

Anyone after a 1981 Raleigh Royal Roadster? One of the last ones ever produced, which was made at the former Carlton factory at Worksop.

Comes with a Sturmey Archer 3 speed wide ratio rear hub, mudguards, road brake, a rear rack, swept back bars and a good Brooks B66 saddle.

Size is 21.5" seat tube (centre to centre, that's 54.61cm), 23.5" top tupe (centre to centre, that's 59.69cm). So size is Medium/Large, suitable for someone 5ft8 to 6ft broadly (172cm to 182cm).
Currently set up for me at 5ft10.5 but will work a couple of inches either way. Seatpost is currently at its insertion limit so if you are on the taller side, you will need a longer seatpost (25.48mm / 1.003 INS.

This one was brought back from France, one of my dad's friends owns a cafe and they used it back in the early 80's for errands. Stayed unused for 35 years until I repatriated it to London. It still bears the stickers from the bike shop in Reims (which has since closed).

What have I done to it? Fitted:
    -new Vredestein BL Classic tyres (28 x 1 1/2 or 40-635 ETRTO), (£25)
-new Fibrax rod brakes pads, (£8)
-new Oxford 3 speed gear cable. (£5)

I then went onto trueing the wheels, regreasing the wheel bearings, adjusting the headset, tensioning chain, adjusting the 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub.

How does it ride? Well, like it always has since this bike was designed in the 1930's, I did not achieve miracles unfortunately... It is an old bike with rod brakes, an oil bath chain guard and internal gears.

How much am I after? Well I offered 100€ to my dad's friend then went onto spending a mighty £38 on parts so that's £125 all in with the Brooks B66 or SOLD FOR £100 with another saddle.

Test rides from New Cross Gate (between Peckham & Deptford) or I could bring into The City at some point.

    Vince

  • SOLD to @littleK for £100

  • My dad rode to his post office job on one of these. Bought with small proceeds of his mother's bequest. I'd love to buy it and place it in the churchyard where his ashes were scattered. But it would get nicked......even in death, nothing is safe.
