One of Charlie Brooker's 'Newswipe of the Year',
had an even more serious section than many,
where a video clip was shown of a US academic,
stating exactly what you suggest, minimal publicity, sober reporting of the trial,
and no triumphalism at the length of the sentence, was the best way to prevent copycat events and to reduce the self-indulgent media spree as each commentator tries express greater sorrow/ repugnance/ high ground.
It was followed by a clip from another TV station shoing no restraint
and doing everything wrong.

I think he should be ignored. Zero press coverage, zero anything ever mentioned about him from now onwards (except somehow privately to victims and their families). It’d make him implode
