  • Can’t answer your Q about 3rd party repairers, but how old is it? That would be my decider as to whether to fork out and pay for a repair. Personally I’d get Apple to do it if I decided to fix. Otherwise sell it for spares (remove/securely erase hard drive first) and get another secondhand one/new depending on how your wallet feels.

  • It's a 2013 MacBook Pro, and had a new display fitted on warranty last year (just that would have been £400).

    Yeah, maybe worth selling for spares and getting a new one. Just sucks as I was completely happy with this one. Would happily keep it if I knew it wasn't going to break for some other reason. Maybe I can buy some sort of insurance/warranty for that.

  • Hhmmm tough call. If it was me I’d probably think about getting a new(er) one. Depends on your use though. Things like how is the battery doing, how important is keeping the OS up to date for you? (might not get updates after another year or two). Second hand 2013 pros seems to be for sale for about the same price as that repair depending on screen size/spec etc. just as a comparison.
