I have 2.6 DHF's in the back of my Ransom, and to be honest if you go any larger it'll start having an adverse effect on handling. The squirm when cornering fast is noticeable even on a 2.6.
It certainly improves, and on a hard tail it's definitely worth taking a bit of squirm for the comfort factor. Not sure I really need 2.6 inch tyres on a long travel 29er but it looks fucking dope bruhhhh.
