  • I agree with you.

If you have a suggestion for a thing like that reMarkable one (big, nice on the eyes, preferably white) but "read only", without the nice but un-needed (and expensive) ability to write / sketch on it then please share. Ta.

That's pretty cool. Although I can't imagine it lasting more than a a year or two if used as intended.

The kindle suggestion was mainly because I assumed you wanted a book / paper replacement. Another suggestion that may/not be useful is a eink screen. Compared to normal monitors they're expensive, but cheaper than the remarkable. Have a look on aliexpress as they oddly seemed to have the widest range when I looked into it.

Also worth mentioning I knew someone once who worked with long contacts and used a kindle as a way to manage tonnes of large pdfs he had to review.

  • There's the Kindle DX. Was discontinued a number of years ago but you can pick them up on ebay from the US.

  • Thanks again for the feedback.

I shall have a look at those in the shops or, even better, borrow one of those for testing.
    Because by now I get the impression that I might be better off with an iPad actually;
read that high-res LCD screens don't actually strain the eyes more that the eInk displays, at least if there's no glare - and I will be using this 95% indoors (and also not for hours of reading every day).
Plus really need a big-ish screen, and for the price of those I can really get a used iPad (which has the benefit of, uh, being a iPad at the same time, which is nice).

  • There's the Kindle DX.

Ha, yeah, I saw that - looks like it's from the 1990's!

  • is there a hub which does this:

    Disc
    Fixed
    135mm OR 12x142mm

    ?

  • thank you very much!

  • Tracklocross?

  • I enjoy riding my fixie but its so impractical as it has no guard mounts so kinda day-dreaming about a 650b Nature Boy fixie to replace that.

  • Cool, I'm planning to build a 650b single speed gravel bike after I've done my lugged road bike so kind of wondering the same.

  • Yeah when I researched the issue for the Stayer 650b fixie the only hubs that seemed to fit the bill were Surly ultra new and the Paul one. Talk to Sam ;)

  • Talk to Sam ;)

I am going to talk to you before him :) I am leaning towards a custom too.

  • This has DBAD II written all over it

  • I can sell you my Condor Tempo dixie (is that a thing?) for a suitably expensive price.
    Disc front, fixed back
    Mudguard mounts
Currently has 32s on it (though not with guards)

  • Checkout trials hubs if you're looking for 135mm fixed with disc.

  • What bottom bracket is best for a shimano R600 175mm compact chainset and a frame with an Italian thread? Thanks!

  • BB-R60 is available in Italian

  • Lovely - will get that

  • My better half is having gear issues. She's got Force 1 levers with Rival 1 rear mech.
Shifting the paddle does nothing but when changing up, the shifting paddle goes slack after one shift but the rear mech doesn't move. Can't shift back up and catch the slack either, there's just no pressure in the shifter paddle either way once you've done it once.
It does eventually shift and then works fine albeit a bit laggy.
Normally I'd just change the cables but they're only a few months old, full outer so unlikely to be corroded, and only been used 4k each way each day.
Could the problem be in the shifter?
Or in the mech as its clutched?
Or just the cables? Maybe there's a tight curve or kink somewhere

  • I want to buy a pair of binoculars for spying on wildlife but I have no idea what I'm looking for. What are good qualities/features to have in a pair of binoculars? What are some good brands? I'm only really after a cheap pair but have no idea how much you have to spend to get something worthwhile.

  • Opticron 8x42 should be a good starter. Zeiss if you want to get spendy.

  • Which quick/master link chain tool should I buy? Cheapest one I can find or go for the Park tool version?

  • Will I seem like an unreasonable choad if I go first thing to the LBS and ask if they can replace my rear cassette w/in the hour with potential bribe of pastry or w/e.
