How challenging was it getting furniture up there? I've thought about something similar as it'd be more solid than the current solution (flimsy alu ladder seemingly held together by gaffer tape), but I'd just have one arm to carry things up...

Not really DIY but this seems the best place fo this question. I need to replace all the light bulbs in my kitchen because new bulbs keep blowing and I think it's because I haven't got them all matching (how you find out what bulbs the previous occupant bought is beyond me).
So where is a good online place to get 240v GU5.3, preferably LEDs?
I also have the same predicament with under-cupboard (above worktop, mood lighting but not actually that useful) lights. These are 12v G4 halogens. Again I'd rather replace with LEDs if possible.

Normally my local hardware store would be the go to option but they don't have what I'm after.

Moving house in less than 4 weeks and the garage is 44m2. Going to sort something similar but larger scale out.

Looking forward to seeing what you do. I'd quite like to sort out a decent tool chest and build a folding worktop to sit above it for my mini-man-cave.

Obvs more expensive than ikea, but Sealey have some pretty nice workshop cabinets and sometimes have deals.

If all the bulbs keeps going it might be a good idea to check the wiring? I've never heard of mis-matching lightbulbs causing them to blow. Is that really a thing?

I guess LED's will be more resilient though, so could work better

It was fine, just used a stepladder when moving large items. Once you get used to it it’s very easy to go up with one hand because you continue up to the top and just step to one side

Does the hive think that this rad cover would prevent the rad from working anywhere close to efficiently ?

I swapped out all of our MR16 GU5.3 bulbs with MR16 GU10 LEDs

It did mean a bit of rewiring though - cutting out the transformers & wiring in GU10 connectors - but that seemed worth it, as to change the bulbs to LED, I would have needed to swap the transformers to work with LEDs

Halogen lights are very hot, which could be causing things to blow / trip. It's terrifying how burned & melted a lot of the downlighters I've swapped are.

I'm replacing mine slowly with the Hue Gu10 white ambience ones! Expensive but worth every penny.

I've got some old explosion-proof lights that use T30 E27 lamps. The ones they came with were too low output and I finally got round to replacing the original incandescents with LED replacements this weekend.

Each light has 4 lamps, if all of them are LED they come on for a fraction of a second then go off, if I then return 1 incandescent (so 1 incandescent and 3 LEDs per light) they work without issue. Is there some way that their significantly lower power draw could be causing this due to some circuitry/safety feature in them?

Checking the wiring is getting more into the realms of DIY, and I do have a multimeter somewhere. Presumably if the wiring is at fault I'm looking at getting someone in?

Ideally I'd like to not rewire the whole kitchen or have to do much at all. Got enough unfinished jobs around the house without starting on a new one! We don't have a problem with the type of bulbs or the light warmth etc, just that they keep blowing.

That is expensive! I don't think we need smart bulbs or the ability to change colour/dim. Just reliable lights that turn on with a normal switch.

Yes, I know that some dimmers have a lower wattage limit as well as the more obvious upper limit. Not sure what/why though...
