3t had bars named "Merckx bend" so I suppose he used them at a certain moment in his career. The pantographed Merckx stems (and bars) on his early frames (Professional) were 3t too. The nineties bikes came mostly with pantographed Cinelli stems.

I don't think he used anything other than Cinelli bars and stems in his career.
Every picture shows him using Cinelli.
Did the 3ttt bars came out after he retired? He could have licensed his name after retiring. The Faema bike above looks like a Terryn, note the "T" on the lugs.
Can't tell the others, second might be a De Rosa, bottom has Colnago stem but odd seatstay caps. -

Or it might just have been a time when athletes weren't so obsessed with their "image rights" and considered it a complement rather than an affront when manufacturers used their name as a generic to describe a product.

3t started producing "Merckx bend" in the early seventies. These came in 26 mm, maybe that's why he rode them in a Cinelli stem?

(I found info on production date on Velobase)

Interesting, I assumed if he was using Cinelli stems he would use Cinelli bars.
Will have to look closer at my old pictures. -

Except Cinelli stems were 26.4 in those days 🙂

And Merckx licensed his name to a lot of things he never used.
Lots of companies made bikes branded Merckx, but surely he never raced on a Falcon. -

Maybe, but not with that chainring, no tape and bloody Gatorskins...
Did Merckx use a Cinelli 1a stem with a 3t bar? or does anyone know his set-up?
