  • Did you post that in the passing distances thread? I don't know what link you were trying to make (may well have been something arising out of the discussion quite naturally, considering the tangents we usually go off on), but on the face of it I'd struggle to see its relevance there (but certainly wouldn't be in favour of heavy moderation like that).

  • haven't watched it

That stood out to me as well.

Although there are some statements of fact there (or what I assume are statements of fact, having not verified them myself).

That said, having watched it, the individuals and their families are so utterly convincing maybe it's best to make the case against them without having watched it.

  • I find this acquittal quite incredible. What is 'cognitive impairment' even supposed to mean in this context?

  • Haven't read your post, but it's rubbish. :)

  • I don't see what good this will do other than a further erosion of the seriousness of diplomatic status:

    https://www.theguardian.com/news/2019/mar/07/foreign-office-grants-nazanin-zaghari-radcliffe-diplomatic-protection

Iran does not recognise dual national status, and so do not formally recognise Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s right to be represented by Britain.

Therein lies the problem--why would Iran recognise her British-given 'diplomatic' status if it doesn't recognise her British nationality?

  • That G-force blackout/redout is now a legal excuse for pilot error? Even if one, with all of one’s years of experience, should have known what one was doing wasn’t safe or adviseable in the first place? Allegedly.

Or we’ve had enough of experts, such that a jury trial can overrule the findings of a report from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

(I am equally stunned by the verdict)

  • It's just another expression of "the human isn't responsible for their actions leading to the deaths of others, there but for the grace of God go I".

If Shoreham pilot killed 11 people when riding his bike what do you think the sentence would have been?

  • well this is fucking terrible. can't escape the feeling that this wouldn't have happened had the poor lad been allowed back into the country he was a citizen of.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-47500387

  • And all the thick, racist cunts will celebrate. Fuck them all.

  • Pretty sad if true.

  • The Shoreham pilot is a funny case. Negligence is hard to prove - where does it stop being a mistake and become negligence?

Same question for the jury in the Hillsborough trial which is ongoing.

  • I think impact has to be part of it - any manoeuvre has to include a risk assessment.

Literally, what's the worst that could happen?

  • Better knowledge about the history of segregation would help with these awkward moments. Some posh actor with a silly name did it recently too.

  • What is 'cognitive impairment' even supposed to mean in this context?

Apparently the pilot says he must have blacked out or something in the display and argued that he cannot be responsible for his actions or lack of them.

    Seems legit

It's like The Pilot Is Never At Fault thing from that Air France piece.

  • The problem with the 'I blacked out due to G force' argument is pilots flying fighter jets should know about G-force induced loss of consciousness (G-LOC) and, if you're flying at an air show, take steps to avoid it. So if he did black out due to G force, that's his fault, even if being a 1000ft too low was caused by G-LOC.

  • "Mixed race is a misleading term since it implies that a 'pure race' exists."

Does it? When I go into a Young's pub and ask for a pint of "mixed", which is the purer ingredient, Best or Special?

  • I go into a Young's pub and ask for a pint of "mixed"

    gtfo

  • It's absolutely disgusting. Conditions in the camp were "pretty appalling", with a shortage of food, blankets and tents, according to Quentin Sommerville. So, yep.

This is a direct result of Sajid Javid's actions.

I'm not religious, but. Britain is traditionally a Christian country. It's pretty fucking ironic that Shamima Begum was directly asking for forgiveness from Britain. What happened to Cameron's 'British values'?

One of those was "respecting and upholding the rule of law". It is of course against international law to make someone stateless...

  • Yeah I'm not sure I followed the logic, especially given the suggested alternatives.

But at the end of the day it's up to people to choose how they want their race descriped, so I guess if I need to reference it I'll use one of the other terms from now on:

They advise alternatives including "mixed parentage" and "dual heritage".

One of those was "respecting and upholding the rule of law".

Dispite all the logical arguments I can put for/against revoking her citizenship, my gut feeling was always "it's just not British".

I'm not religious either, but growing up my general moral references, schooling, etc. have been Anglican Christian which has probably heavily impacted my views.

But I guess different people place different weight on their cultural values...and it looks like revenge and venom are what most people believe being British means.

  • It’s deeply, deeply shameful that this was done in our name.

  • You can read the report from the accident investigation beuro - G had nothing to do with it.

The plane was flown catastrophically badly.

So It looks like his defence was “I done a stupid that can only be explained by a special kind of mental impairment at the time”

Which seems like a nice get out of jail free card.

  • The sun was probably in his eyes

  • I was very sad to read about the baby passing away.
and echo what has been said, yes she made.a hugely stupid decision to go out there when she was 15....15! It's another shameful act by the government that has cost the life of a baby who could have been saved.

I was surprised that she wasn't brought back in the interest of home securtiy as pushing her away just makes her a propaganda dream for Isis.
    my cynical head on.
