Photo editing and the 1TB storage will be the limiting factors for a tablet.

On editing it probably depends on how advanced your editing requirements are.

Last time I looked the ipad was still the best 10" option. If it will mainly be used in the home 10" would be my choice. Otherwise imo 7-8" is the ideal portable table size and weight.

Unfortunately the storage requirement rules out Apple as you'll need something with an SD slot.

Some form of Surface probably fits the bill if you want to go down the tablet route (although obviously with the keyboard they work fine as a laptop). You can add a microSD for extra storage if needs be.

Although unless the form factor is important I'd just get a laptop for much cheaper.

If most of your storage is required for music currently stored elsewhere, look into Apple Music/iTunes Match. You’ll be able to access complete library without storing locally.

I'm currently getting by with 512 GB and want to keep everything stored locally (2010 Macbook Pro).
I only use Apple Photos for editing so my needs are primitive.
The unit would stay home 99% of the time.
Fuck Apple and their disappearing hardwire capabilities, but dongles would still do the job I suppose.

Doesn't the new Ipad pro have a USB C port. I would assume (although I have no idea as I own no apple stuff so you'll want to read up on it) that this would be able to connect up to pretty much anything.

I would assume that it will connect to absolutely nothing, and force you to buy whatever product they have told you that you can buy. Most probably extra cloud, rather than local storage.

In that case I'd go for a 10" android tablet with an SD card slot which can run up to 1tb.

My mum and boss have one of the new Samsungs with a stylus and they're are nice.

If you've got the cash though a surface would be the ideal.

For 10" I recently picked up a secondhand Surface Go (8gb version) with keyboard for £350. It seems decent although I've not really tried it much.

Hm, the Samsungs seem to top out at 500 GB, maybe Lenovo?

May I ask why you need 1 TB on the device if you're at home? Can't you store it externally? A 1TB external SSD is about £150. A 1TB iPad or Surface is what, £2000?

Or, if you bought a user-upgradeable laptop you could add a 1TB SSD for about £100 (I think you can still do that with some Macbooks?)

I just want to minimize the number and size of my devices.
For buying new (1 T) within the Apple world the iPad Pro 11” seems to be the cheapest way.
It’s about $2000 CAD, so actually less than I paid for the MacBook Pro about 9 years ago.
Even a regular MacBook with that amount of memory would be more, and being a two finger typist I don’t believe I’d require a physical keyboard.

OK that's a lot cheaper than I expected.

Follow up question, I'm looking at wireless headphones and am interested in the Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic options especially. I currently use the HD25-1 II for home and travel and have been quite satisfied. Open to on or over ear iterations. Bose and Sony are players obviously as is B&W and AKG but I like the (maybe implied) quality of the first two mentioned.

If I wanted a low budget device just for reading black and white PDFs (mostly text, with bits of line art) what would I get?
Never had one in my hands but saw people with those Kindles while on commute and the matte lcd-type display looked nice. The thing should be cheap, and easy on the eyes basically.

Try to get one in your hands. I've read lengthy PDFs on a first generation Kindle, but you might prefer the posh one over the basic one as it has finer resolution and better contrast. You won't know until you've tried one, and it's £60 vs. £120 so worth taking a moment to check.

The ebook kindles - paperwhite, etc. are brilliant. Light, good battery life, easy on the eyes. As amazing as modern smartphones/tablets are a kindle is still hands down the best medium to read on.

I'd say Kindle assuming you're happy with the screen size. Reading on them is much easier than a tablet/phone. You can either drag and drop files or email them.

They can be a bit small if it's technical pdfs or similar though.

Yes I shall go and take a look at these in the stores.

Indeed I would need a larger one though as I won't be holding the thing right in front of me the whole time but have it on my desk among other things and it would be good to still be able to read things (like if it was printed on A4 basically).
