  • Just cleaned my 2sl and did some general maintenance.

Deffo need to replace the drive chain - @maynardeames is it worth sticking with the standard Brompton replacements? Pretty sure it's a 54t chainring.

Also the chain tensioner looks slightly out of line - I replaced it 2 or three years ago but they aren't the most hardy of parts. Worth going for a better aftermarket solution?

Finally, my brommie is a raw lacquer version. I've just noticed a couple of spots where there are bits of surface rust - like around the hinge lever. Something to be concerned about?

  • Generally, you can find aftermarket stuff but it probably won’t be as good / functional as stock!
Aftermarket tensioners are ££ and generally crap!

Vostok tensioner is brilliant, but only suitable for IHG

Shouldn’t cause any trouble for a long time, a bit of internal wax from wurth and gt85 for external will help.

  • the chain tensioner looks slightly out of line

Hmmmm, I think mine looks a bit pissed, although could be my eyes. Back-pedalling to get the crank out the way for the fold, the tensioner won’t hold down, just rises up. The jockey wheels are clean and smooth, and the bearings in the hub are also fine. Would a bent tensioner do this?
