    Yes, it will take a regular laptop HDD. But expect it to stop working when you need it, SATA-USB bridges are notoriously shit.

    It didn't strike me as the sort of thing that needed to be expensive, and was exactly the sort of thing you'd go to aliexpress for.

    Also worth noting that it probably won't get much use, but it seems easier to keep the old HDDs in neat boxes that can be plugged in if needed, rather than borrowing a sata port connector thingy from my mate as I have done so far.

  • Sorry, I was probably being grumpy. Probably fine for occasional use. Due to IT background I tend to over-specify. Also for 2.5" you don't need a power adaptor so that means they are cheaper and less to go wrong.
