  • Croix de Fer owners- I have a 2017 model with a 38c Vittoria Revolution (with graphene no less) on the front and want to know if anyone has put a similar sized tyre on the rear with mudguard clearance? I have a 30mm on there at the mo with loads of clearance- Planet X have 35c and 38c for £8- which one should I get?

    I am bloody excited about this thing

    Got a set of HED Ardennes propping it up at the moment with the 26mm SWorks Turbo Tyres coming up at 31mm on the + rims - still with a load of clearance either side.

    I have high hopes that waiting for the right moment to convert to disc road has prevailed....

    Once I’ve got myself bike fitted on Friday (very scared) I’m going to be adorning this with as many suitably stupid parts as possible.

  • Not the one my colleague has.

    Think there's always been a hub gear option so 135mm spacing.

    The one he has is pretty much a Flyer with wider spacing and more eyelets.

    Have had a few of these come to me at the studio unpainted straight from the factory - they are deffo one of the better quality frames from the bigger manufacturers that ive worked with that have sent frames direct to me in a raw carbon state from the factory.

    All the little alloy parts that come in a seperate bag like the head tube cable guide fittings and axle mount parts that fit into the dropouts are all so well made, and fit in place perfectly. its a really well thought out frame.

    I find it annoying that they dont colourmatch the headset cover piece thingy on the stock frames, but I'm told this is because the factory refuse to do it, as they are a bit of a pain to paint due to the material they are made from being quite porous, and as such need several coats of primer to get them into a state that can be painted.

    I have a rim brake version in the works that i want to build into a lightwight bike for mountain trips in the summer. Am torn between cable or Di2 R8000.

  • Yeah, I was very impressed when I got it out of the box - it’s really what I’ve been waiting for as a leap in to disc road - geometry is quite friendly also!

    The last one you painted was the tipping point for me on lust for this frame.

    I’m heading R8070 with as many lightweight carbon/alloy bits to finish it off.

    Will eventually finish it with some super light wheels but currently the HED are a more than capable and hardly portly!
