  • oh wow.

  • An excellent film. Not mocking; not scornful; just examining why people hold such views. We need to understand that before dismissing their views.

  • I completely agree. Something that can be applied to lots of views people hold which are easy to laugh off and dismiss, which further cements those peoples suspicions and theories.

Quite relevant to this whole brexit mess and divisions in the UK at the moment.

  • "NASA: Never A Straight Answer" t shirts are a common sight in the USA.
Flat earthers say NASA is a scam because it gets $50 million dollars a day.

One of these weirdos is at my workplace and he is completely nuts, it is really not funny.
He spouts all the crap, there is no gravity, the sun is only 3000 miles away, there is an ice ring around the world. GPS is all a scam. Moon landing was filmed by Kubrick.
Every day he ends up having arguments with someone. He tells people who have cancer, or who have members with cancer, that cancer is all a "scam" by drug companies...not funny when some's spouse or kid has just died.
He went after a woman whose husband is a neurologist. He thinks fluoride is how the government controls people and tried to get her to admit it.
As posted earlier, these conspiracy fanatics have something wrong with them. They are angry or lack self confidence and they want to feel superior. Their secret knowledge is their crutch.
They really hurt people when they advocate against vaccines and proper medicine.

  • GPS is all a scam

It may be, but it works pretty fucking well.

  • If NASA really were perpetuating the round earth myth, they’re probably still be out of pocket after all that funding. Just keeping the ice wall perimeter permanently patrolled would cost an absolute fortune.

  • Proper use of bicycle to proof earth is actually not flat

  • I asked him directly how fluoride allows "them" to control people.
His response : "Just think about it. It does. "
That is the kind of reasoning you get. It is really frustrating.

I think some people cannot understand the world around them, so they invent their own reality.

  • I think some people cannot understand the world around them, so they invent their own reality.

Humans have been doing this for thousands of years.

The difference with flat earthers and other conspiracy theorists is that they flat-out reject proper scientific evidence

  • Plenty of more mainstream religious folk do the same.

  • Damaged the flimsy wooden sticks when he put them on his bike and went for a ride with them, should have made the sticks from 531 tubing if it was going to be scientific.

  • I’m currently watching Behind the Curve on Netflix. It’s harrowing stuff!

It’s so hard not to just laugh at these people, but they really don’t give you much else to work with!

  • Excellent thread on how Youtube's AI evolved to promote conspiracy theories. tl;dr - conspiracy freaks are their ideal revenue generator and their machine learning both fed those people and encouraged other people to go down that rabbit hole.

  • The concern is the censorship of anything considered 'conspiracy theory' by a company that works closely with gov't agencies. Some 'conspiracy theory' has turned out to be true as one of the posts points out - the 5 eyes surveillance that Snowden exposed. Gaining acceptance for a blanket right to exercise censorship by citing one of the more easily identifiable disprovable theories potentially masks a sinister agenda.

  • It's akin to the T&C's of all these social media things where you basically hand over the right to them - or any unidentified associates of theirs - to use anything they collect on you to replicate you in any shape or form and for any purpose..with your attention distracted from the omnipotent potential you've just handed them - or anyone they consider to be an associate without you ever knowing - by the inclusion of a phrase 'such as to enhance your experience' (whatever is included in the 'such as' statement being a subset of venn diagram that could be anything and unspecified)

  • Turns out that Notch, creator of a digital flat earth, is also a conspiracy freak

  • Can someone explain what this means?

Who is Q and what are they legit about?

How anyone is still on the left now that they're ... claiming walls don't work is a mystery to me.

Well you need a roof as well, to stop spiders getting in, and you still have to watch out for creepers, unless you use obsidian. noob.

  • Fabulous stuff. At least it takes the heat off The Jews, I guess.

  • Qanon has recycled some of David Icke's ideas, so no.

  • I had to look up who the fuck he was, but I was SHOCKED to see that a rich video game designer who looks like this:

    ...is a right-wing conspiracy nut.

    Shocked.
