What brakes should I be looking for if I'm building a 90s mountain bike into a contemporary commuter-beater? Stick with the stock XT M750 v-brakes or get the contemporary ones? Or ditch the v's altogether?

• #122529
Provided they don't chatter then you've got some fantastically good v-brakes there. Might be worth fitting a brake booster if they do.

Thank you and I do not know if I keep the combo 3TTT pista or if I go in Cinelli 2A pista ...

They were both made in the same factory. So whatever you like the look of.

Excellent, thanks. Steel fork on alloy frame, would you recommend front and rear boosters? They're the perfect excuse for that little injection of silly-coloured anodised parts.

Boosters definitely works, as they reduce flex on the bosses.
There are Shimano carbon ones too which are quite expensive and rare to come by.

Any recommendations for a 406 20” tanwall tyre with road tread and 1.95” or wider?
-
• #122535
Apparently Maxxis DTH has skinwall options.
-
• #122536
I don’t seem to be able to find them any more. I swear I saw Halo H Blocks and Twin Walls in 20” a while back but I can’t find them either :/

Aw, sorry.
I think some others were talking about the full size version of these tires having flatting issues, yet lufguss owners have had no problems so far (me included). -

I saw those Haro ones but I was a bit wary about them. Odyssey Aaron Ross seems to be readily available in 2.1 or there’s a Maxxis Grifter for the same price in 2.35 on an eBay shop in Aus. It’s a question of whether I want a 2.35 enough that my conscience will ignore having it airfreighted halfway round the world.

does the cockpit look weird or nah?
No, I like the way it looks.

• #122547

Exactly

Bars are currently at 72cm which is lovely but i have clipped a few mirrors squeezing threw cars so Im thinking even down to 62cm would be nice.
@timmah! correction:
Road kill skeleton definitely gets an A+ (he keeps away all the evil spirits/bike robbers away) -

Actually they looked narrower, as you were.
new Campag cranks...
