never trust a bike racer's numbers
Yes, I've never believed that hippy really has more than 110,000 posts. :)
-
• #2653
They're not my claims. You'll have to speak to the bossman about that count.
-
• #2654
Oh, I trust the boss, because he's not an ultra-racer ...

Just read on instagram Abdullah is going to compete in the TABR later this year.

Badly written BBC Article about the coroners report.

Going to be interesting to see how he does, good news.

I've just read the actual report.

Essentially, it is a victim blaming document in that it focuses on what could Mike have done to make himself more visible, and what new laws can be brought in to force other cyclists to do so, rather than what could drivers do to avoid hitting things in front of them.
However, my reading of it is that it says that the driver may have been guilty of 'negligent driving' which carries a sentence of up to 2 years. The decision on whether to prosecute is to be left to the police. -

I've decided that I need to spend some more time getting my position on the bike sorted before the summer, which means finding some aerobars which I can actually use. I've been trying to get comfortable on the cheap token clip-ons I bought years ago, but the pads are waaay too far forwards.
The Profile Design T1+ ones look pretty adjustable and set the pad behind the bars, rather than above/ in front, which would be rad for dialing in the right position. They also appear to have been discontinued, which sucks. Does anyone have a set of these that they'd be willing to lend/ sell?
This ultracycling thing is starting to get expensive.

Because of the location Bikingman Oman isn't really an entry level race I would think but looks like quite a few racers are oblivious (or don't care) about one of the primary rules of solo ultracycling: No drafting allowed.
-
• #2663
Yes, saw that. Matthijs was at the sharp end too, so it would have been the top riders doing it.
Is he going to be prepared to report people or name and shame? -
• #2664
or don't care
feel like this is the more likely explanation
-
• #2665
Wasn't it last year the #1 finisher was DQ'd for drafting? Maybe lots of people coming from supported or sportive backgrounds that don't really get it? Maybe people thinking "fuck it" and forming alliances so their egos don't get hurt?

The reason I like racing TCR is that it has integrity.

The reason I like TCR is that the riders, including the winners, have integrity.

• #2668
Yes, did he draft a car? Or even have a lift in it or something...

Thanks:)

Well, I was looking for a name and or photo (it was Bastien Fontaine) and found this race report from the winner: https://bicebicycles.com/2018/03/21/rodney-win-bikingman-oman-challenge/
Riding in groups, sharing food, helping eachother with flat tires,... So much for calling it an unsupported event.

"after a couple of hours, 5 racers and I left the big group"
erm
"some sweet bars that Marcus George Leach gave me"
erm
"Jason asked me whether I needed something to eat and he gave me a handful of energy bars"
erm
"We rode together"
erm
"Jason got back to back flat tyres. I lent him one of my tubes (to show my gratitude for the snacks that would help me till the end)"
erm
erm
He then writes about 1st place being DQ'd for drafting right under a photo of them two drafting? dafuq?
"He gifted me with a 1 litre bottle of water and he became my personal angel."
erm
Yeah, ok so they're both DQ'd right?

Who's this?
-
• #2673
@MisterTomTom link above
Maybe they've tightened the rules up although it doesn't sound like it based on what Matthijs saw.
-
• #2674
So the guy that won this year wrote that? Right!
-
• #2675
Thought it was a previous edition?
Good vid - would be very impressed if someone could hold a conversation at 350W!
