to be clear the frameset definitely has signs of usage but nothing other than aesthetic damage

yes that is a dent, can't really get a better pic at moment though, better to wait for daylight for that

for wider context, this bike belonged to a friend of mine who moved to Canada and he had no plans to do anything with it after he'd left, so I said I could try sell it for him as it's way too small for me. i didn't purposely omit the detail about the dent just hadn't noticed it, bike was professionally serviced though and i'm told it's structurally sound

That's a Columbus MAX fork by the way. Frame is Columbus Zona apparently. Not bad. GLWS.

Usually this kind of dents are there so that you can fit the chainring. Or this is what it looks like form the picture.
But i might be wrong, tho .
