Yes to both points. I remember waiting to board a ferry and seeing a couple of tourers casually unfold the small kickstand on the front rack - now that's serious business.

( @Hulsroy I haven't followed the brake lever story but if you're looking for single-speed levers I have a pair of TRP RRL SR you can have if you want. Gum hoods.)
I reckon you could still drill a hole for the kickstand in the chain-monostay near the bb. Otherwise you could fit a chainstay-specific kickstand. I think there's also Tubus front rack-specific kickstands intended for tourers with lots of front load
