I have 50t chainring 1x setup on my Caad12 and feel guilty that I have a cassette that goes up to 32t on it. It gets me up Swains, Mott Street and other hills out in Essex without a problem.
If I wanted to do some more serious climbing and stay with 1x I'd be sizing down the chainring and getting a hub that can take 10t sprockets.
Don't apologise. There are some things called hills out in Essex. I'm not trying to say they're anything special, hence why I can run 1x with a decent sized chainring without a problem.
I preferred it when we just used to criticise valve alignment and saddle angles.
