Fair do's I would have gone specialist on the last two bikes, and I know I really should in same way bike fit is worth it, but cost was prohibitively high and I wasn't riding spirited at the time. Now I would.
I've cut a couple of exhausts into shorties, the last being double barrel Laser set. It was a hassle because they were so well made. The riveting wasn't the issue, it was repacking it that got a bit chaotic. Saying that, I did it indoors so that added to stress. It's messy. If you have the space and time, why not.
