  • Haha

  • And also @salmonchild isn’t it more the 1/9/90 theory, paraphrasing badly
1% super engaged and leading the charge
    9% engaged
    And 90% lurking/Reading.

Forum continues to grow, older users slip away or stay in the threads they know, and newer users engage with the forum as new users do.

The forum’s reputation is the forums reputation, and it’s still growing because it’s still open to new members, whether they stay or go is entirely up to them.

We’re a vibrant forum from what I can see, and people both old and new value it.

  • Forum continues to grow, older users slip away or stay in the threads they know, and newer users engage with the forum as new users do.

Without any evidence or numbers it's hard to confirm or deny this, but my observation is similar to salmonchilds. A handful of postalots dominate quite a few main threads.

I don't see much evidence of the forum growing in the way that it used to. And whilst there are new users, it doesn't seem like there are a lot of them; we seem to get a couple every now and then that post very frequently, rather than many new users, all the time, posting moderately. You're defintely right about old users slipping away. I just don't see tbem being replaced. And as for LLFGSS, that definitely seems to have died. And again, it's hard to tell, but I don't get the impression that there are a lot of female voices on the forum these days.

    Those are just my observations.

  • Everyone's in the car, watch and home threads. Financial investment thread on the rise too.

  • the car, watch and home threads

Ha, I have all 3 of those on ignore

  • Who said that?

  • Maybe @Velocio can provide the numbers you seek.
From personal experience I don’t spend much time out in the wilderness of the forums, life’s gotten in the way, and I keep to the territories where my longstanding interests lie. But judging by the amount of current projects and other threads which fill up my today feed, there seems to be plenty going on..

  • There's a lfgss in numbers thread. Ask there.

  • Brexit - same old faces
    DIY - same old faces
    Home - same old faces
    Excel - same old faces
    Football - same old faces
    Parents - same old faces

  • Memes
    Coffee

    It's fairly consistent and conservative.

  • Operative word being old.

  • Yep.
Why don't new people engage with those threads?
    Answer is obvious.

  • I like that thread with the bikes in it

  • I'm not worried, interest which surge again once the book comes out.

  • Home furnishings and watches book?

  • I lurk the watch thread as a form of self flagellation, very cathartic.

  • It feels different even taking into account the behaviours you mention. Looking to see if my impression is correct.

@dst cheers, I knew I had seen the numbers listed like that but couldn't find the thread.

  • The 'Today' tab routinely used to have 9 or 10 pages of active threads.
These days it is down to 7.

  • It's true, we've plateaued.

We've doing around 7,800 visitors per day, but around 190k per month. This is lower than it used to be. Which means we have a stronger core but fewer new people stopping by.

    90-9-1 still applies.

  • We probably need to push fixi trix more, you know for the kidz.

  • It's called winter, some people cycle less in winter, happens each year.

  • Oh you crazy kid you!

  • Could this all be linked to rep, if people knew they might get rep for staying then they might stay and all that.
