  • I have a Basil Portland (newly acquired fron forum). It is supposed to mount on solid axle. I have quick release front, as well as eyelets for rack.
Haven't yet had a chance to try and fit, but on a guess, would either of these options work?
I'm currently thinking either should be fine, maybe with an m5 penny washer between to make it secure...

  • I fitted my Basil Portland onto my 5mm(?) allen bolt on Surly hub (same as qr) using a larger washer either side of the flattened stay and a fat washer the same thickness inside the large mount hole. Ran it for a couple of years like that with no issue. I guess if you have rack mount eyes you could use those. I did check the bolt quite often, but no issues and used it for the grocery shop a couple times a week.

  • It can - comes with 3 different brackets for mounting.

  • like this a lot!

Quite similar to how i've got my pinnacle set up.

  • Thanks, I like the look of that actually and not too expensive.

    @MisterMikkel cool, thank you

  • Recommends for cheap flat pizza racks that will carry a 24 big roll pack? Go....

  • I'm desperate to find a cheaper alternative to the attached photo. (these cost £43)

Looking to mount a front rack using my axle and crown.

    Any suggestions?

  • I have a feeling I may have some of these in the parts bin I'm not using (and didn't pay that much for) - if I can root them out, happy to part with them for a more reasonable price?

  • I honestly don’t have as many spare parts as you think

    But...
I have some of these you can have for nothing. I also found a little pouch and lens hood for the GR if you’re still using that

  • If there’s any sets of these qr mudguard mounts left I’ll buy some :-)

  • Amazing @PhilDAS to the rescue!!

I've been having a nightmare trying to get a front rack and rando bag on a fork with no eyelets.

And the hood and pouch would be awesome. I am indeed still using it - but not as often as I'd like to.

WIll drop you a pm and we can sort a price!

  • I've got a set - never used, I bought different mudguards in the end.

    £10 maybe?

  • a fork with no eyelets.

I could also do something about this (if its steel)

    But would spoil your paint

  • Anyone ever mounted a Wald basket on canti studs without using a rack? Vaguely remember seeing a picture of this setup but can't find it anymore, looking to keep cost down on a commuter (already have the wald)

  • Never seen a set up like that... but you can buy pretty good canti racks for like £15 new, think I bought mine for £5 2nd hand

  • Hey can I join the queue for a phildas frame set?

  • that looks sketchy .. i'd just get a canti rack and zip tie the basket on that

  • it was actually real solid. all that stuff and more on bumpy singletrack without problems.

but yea, the little canti racks from SJS or bike-discount are probs a safer bet @slothy, but his fork didnt have a hole in the crown or allow for mounting stays down by the QR, so this was the best bet

  • Sure thing. The wait might be a while

  • Can't get my Tubus Tara to mount with horizontal bar parallel to the ground, anyone got any idea why that might be ?

  • Its probs the fork's rake / midfork mount position vs eyelet by the drop out orientation, assuming its mounted properly. Toss a pic up, that would help :)

  • Good shout. Thanks .

  • Mount the rack on the eyelet below the dropout, where your mudguard is.
Mount the mudguard to the spare tab on the rack.
