Watching this with interest - I put a holding deposit on a mk6 golf yesterday, but there’s a mk6 golf estate worth roof rails nearby too. Mrs Pablo vetoed my Volvo estate dream so I don’t know how the golf estate will go down though

All estates were vetoed in Casa Hugo, and even a Civic was deemed too big.
Pretty sure the Golf Estate is the same as the Octsvia
The roof bars are only going to see occasional use. Getting a new fence panel, and to hold a roof box for our first trip down to France to cart stuff down there to leave - currently not planning to use it for every trip down there.

Consider also the Ibiza or Leon Estate. Fixed rails.

Octavia is indeed on the same platform as a Golf (and Leon for that matter).
I have a Fabia estate, it’s similar to @umop3pisdn ‘s Ibiza, also has roof rails

I may be way off base here but are you preparing for a sprog? If so, have you tried putting the gigatonnes of stuff that a tiny child requires to be ferried around with it in a Golf? I’d be swapping my C55 for an E63...

Done and dusted.
For pretty much everything the Golf is perfect. Once we don't have to use the carrycot on the buggy it will be even better.
Imo the roof box is only going to be necessary because we're moving a whole load of stuff to leave at my parents in France.
But yes the crap you seem to need is endless. Although I do think people (read men) overdo it which the need for massive postnatal cars.

They only need heaps of shit for a year. I’m 18 months into my stretch and we have got by with a golf.
I did borrow Dammit’s big bomber for a trip to Cornwall, but I reckon that just allowed up to take way more crap than we needed.

I want to remove two badges to tidy the rear of the car.
It’s going to leave 4 small holes. Plastic bumper.
I am looking for some grey plastic covers to mask the holes, something that can screw through from the other side. Does such a thing exist? My backup idea was to use some domed head Allen screws with a small washer and some silicone sealant.

I have an abundance of grey 3D print material at my disposal...

That's unusual, I thought most badges were glued or taped on these days...

In terms of price, decent 182's start creeping very close to Trophy material, and they were generally bought by car nuts, so mostly taken care off as opposed to the fast car lot ragging the standard 182's into oblivion.
Interesting food for thought -

Thanks for the offer!
I might try a few of these

E63
Yes. The estate to rule all estates.

This is utterly superb though. Wish Nissan did a GTR Wagon.
It looks a lot better as an R34 though.

Do you ever actually lash anything onto your roof bars or do you only ever use clip on accessories? I always found that overlap over the clamps useful when tying things down to the Wingbars on my Discovery...

I've only ever used bike carriers on there - no experience of lashing stuff down I'm afraid.

If you're still looking into wheels for the 996 you might fancy a look at Image Wheels also, not sure if they were mentioned upthread?
They've got some excellent designs and prices are fairly reasonable I'd say for what are all custom order wheels.

I have the Thule wing bars and have lashed Christmas trees, pushchairs, suitcases and various other bits and pieces to them. I use two webbing straps with ratchet tensioning gubbins.

I've decided to put the 17's I've already got back on it to try narrower tyres, will likely keep the 18's and make a decision once the new engine goes in - future tyre width will be defined as a function of traction achieved, although 400+ bhp through 255 rears might be entertaining.

once the new engine goes in
What's the deal with that by the way? Any updates?
