Ah, thanks for the info. Where's Vauxhall Market? I can see Nine Elms and one at the station.
The experience of years of following this is that the spots where these things are traded move from market to market once the existing one(s) is/are worked on by police.
Years ago there were frequent reports of bits and bikes being traded at New Covent Garden or Nine Elms, I can't quite remember which.

Can confirm that Nine Elms is still rammed full of stolen stuff, went down there early on Sunday a few weeks back to have a look for a bike of mine and there's whole bikes, frames and 'assorted' components everywhere. Can we get a sticky going of known fencing spots for stolen bikes?

May well be nine elms in that case, I've never been although worked there for a while but can't for the life of me think where it would be. Good idea though @HenryCee seeing how quickly my bits got sold, if I bike gets nicked would be good to have a hit list of places to go looking the following weekend

My mate’s pretty unique bike was nicked from outside his coffee shop - Lanark on Hackney Road last night. If anyone sees it please let me know. Sentimental value, and quite a few new bits recently.
Specialized Hardrock, 1x setup with mudguards covered in stickers and a CND style front rack.

Another reminder that this thread isn't primarily meant to alert people to thefts--that's what the 'Stolen bikes' thread is for:
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/127215/
I believe significantly more people read that thread than this. This one's meant for the advice in the first post and necessary updates to it. If you have a piece of good advice that's not already included, make sure to post it here.

Mine was stolen today. The time that I locked my 'Bespoke' blue Mercian road bike bike, lugged and brazed, Reynolds 531 double butted tubes, with 10 mm shot in seat stays, drop handlebars, dark blue handlebar tape , with my two 10 mm diameter locks is about 2 minutes before 12.11 pm this afternoon when I took this ( now final) photo attached, of my bike today, Sat 26th Jan 2019.
The data; date, time, location, from my phone camera is in the attached photo file, but I've screen shot and attached the data too.
the frame number is , I think.
PM 169
Stamped next to this, on the underside of my bottom bracket shell 20BB3 3LS.
The bike has some very rare components.
Large flange campagnolo rear hub. 36 hole. Stainless steel spokes.
1 inch Campagnolo Record Headset .
Shimano brake levers
No gears..single speed.
Chrome Campagnolo top tube clips . Set of 3
Campagnolo Record cast drop outs. Brazed on carrier bosses, mudguard eyes and bottle cage bosses.
Andrew Hague Saddle Bag bracket and black Carradice Super C Saddlebag with red trim
Shimano Durace , single pivot, side pull, 10 mm bolted on brakes.
More common parts.
28 mm x 700 c winter tyres
Pannier rack and silver mudguards.
Single 42 tooth 175 mm black Shimano single chainset .
Black quill handlebar stem.
Single speed free wheel.
One silver, one black brake cable.
Spd Shimano single sided pedals.
Lamp boss on front fork, rhs.
Mercian transfers on the front fork.
Reynolds 531 transfers
Frame fitting silver pump.
Cateye multi LED lights
2 combinations locks . Both cut, one left at the scene.
Brand new rear inner tube, fitted just this morning.
Cateye multi LED lights
..
..
A custom built Mercian Reynolds tubed frame and forks would be around £1,000 new.
Made by Mercian Cycles of Derby. A specialist steel frame builder.
Some of the other parts are vintage and cannot be replaced.
But a new equivalent bike, plus saddle bag, locks , pump, Cateye lights etc, would be £1400 or so.
2nd hand perhaps £300.
My bike is 'covered' on our house insurance, but the excess is about £200 Plus a claim would mean higher premiums for several years.

Just to point out to people again--this thread isn't really a good one for theft reports. Many more people follow the 'Stolen Bikes' thread, so you might want to consider posting there:

any ideas how to identify a wheelset that's been lost/found? Serial number, anything like that?
-
• #544
Maybe stating the obvious, but if the parts on your bike are nice enough (105 and up probably) and you have a carbon frame (easy to cut) then nothing will really protect you as a thief will sacrifice the frame to get at the components (easier to sell undetected than a whole bike too)

Hi guys I just had my beloved Cinelli Gazette Black Frais stolen in Hide PARK Corner. It very distinctive as is all wrapped in perforated black tape normally used on the handle bar. When I say all wrapped I mean literally every tube is wrapped with that tape. It looks it may be carbon fiber but in reality is stealth black colour which mimic the carbon. I am very distraught about the theft and hoping the community will look out for it. Frame number 54LY14050143. Picture of the bike just below. Please near in mind is not longer fitted with road handle bar but a rather straight one.

If your bike was stolen, look here, maybe you’ll be lucky! https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/news/recovered-stolen-items/
Well long story short, I've only got my cranks and pedals back! BOOM! thanks to the questionable security preferences of almost everyone on the internet I emailed his dad (who works at the local church) with all the info I'd gleaned and suggested he have a chat with his son otherwise he might have some explaining to do once he got or the pearly gate. Turns out his son is actually a pretty stand up lad who builds bikes from his back yard and sells them on. Phoned me up after I sent his dad the email apologising profusely and I've just gone and picked up the cranks and the pedals that got nicked, and he gave me the money back for the pedals I bought in order to get his deets.
Told him he should use his building skills and get a job as a mechanic rather than toeing the line, but sounds like there's too much of an industry in building bikes from questionable parts to bother. Who knew?? Anyway apparently Vauxhall Market sounds like a den of stolen kit, and I don't think he'll be buying relatively unique looking kit ever again. Will update the PO PO on the Vauxhall market lead but they probably already know about that. Thanks for the info guys and the police officer linked at the beginning of the thread is a proper gent as we're all the other officers I dealt with.
