Nope.

I didn't hang around. Was interesting and yeah too short and bit superficial, but that was a given. Like the approach he's taking internally to try to strike a nice work/life balance. Hope they actually are that nice.

Yeah; I'd wondered whether given the venue and audience it might be a bit more technical (I wanted to hear more about the engineering of the e-Brompton!). It did stoke my desire for a Brommie even more, mind.

To what respect?

There are three dealer levels, this equates to the minimum stock of spares and bikes you hold.
If your not a brompton dealer, you can’t buy Brompton parts, simple.
Basic dealers, aka authorised, cannot access certain things like Brompton electric or some premium models, all seems very fair to me.

They just dicked us about and now won’t sell us spares any longer. Bit embarrassing that I have to go elsewhere to buy bits for my own bloody Brompton.
-
• #6183
Are you a dealer? What level?
-
• #6184
Yeah, given we where in an engineering setup (Dyson School of Engineering at all), that would have been nice actually.
-
• #6185
Oh dang, you going to whip skid the brompton?
-
• #6186
Brompton dynamos: worth it or just heavy? I have a three speed and have no intention of going weight weenie on it.
-
• #6187
Not sure about the whip skiddability, but fixed for sure.... perhaps tubeless too.
-
• #6188
The new sp hubs are nice, not too heavy tbh.
If you want nice nice, go son, the super small Xs hubs weigh naff all!
-
• #6189
For year-round fit-and-forget utility riding I vote yes; by all accounts the new SP hub and lights is better than the old basic dyno lighting kit.

• #6190
Where did one get a gem like this, also will this make your bike un-foldable now?
-
• #6191
It will still use the chain tensioner, although without as much slack in the chain. It’s still a work in progress, but others have managed it so i’m Optimistic.
Regarding the wheel, Brick Lane Bikes had to do a special order for the hub (keirin spacing) and the rim (Velocity A23). The rim’s supposedly tubeless ready, so i’m Going to try it with a Kojak. Someone on the web managed it with Marathons, so again, i’m Optimistic.
I am still trying to forget how much that one wheel cost me.

Not any longer. They wanted us to keep 10 bikes in stock at all times, we tried to negotiate and they dumped us and went to the latest branch of Velorution instead. Cunts.
-
• #6193
I don’t think that is unreasonable at all. They want you to keep an amount of bikes in stock, you don’t want that, you don’t have a dealership then... it’s very black and white,

The whole SP setup adds around 250g (including standard lamps, front of which you’ll probably want to replace as its pathetic)
-
• #6195
Hmm OK. I've loved commuting with dynamo on my sweet fixie so having it on the brompton seems great, but £200 for set plus new front light seems steep. What rechargeable lights are best for brompton?
^ That was 80-85% a joke

You could just buy the wheel and the loom then buy your own lights. The standlight on my new style rear Brompton light failed within weeks so replaced with a b&m. (Which is better in every way and £10 more)
-
• #6198
It’s like £150? If you email Ryan@sjscycles.com I’ll happily sort out a “kit” with a replacement front light if you wanted something better

Dare I say how much?
Sadly, no. What are the problems with dealing with them - I've heard grumbles, but mainly around them only selling parts to their major dealers (is that what being a 'premium' dealer gets you? I can never exactly work out what that means).
