Yeah, wouldn't necessarily want SD purely because I want a display case back and a very clean dial - but mmmm dat hand sweep.
-
• #33378
Yeah, a clean dial is nice, could go for the quartz version... lol.
I have also checked out the SBGJ203 (same case size/shape) and was disappointed - you’d think the hi-beat movement and Iwate dial texture would be amazing but it just seemed fussy with all the GMT furniture on it.

Yeah totally agree having also seen one. I think the GS boutique in New York are getting sick of me window shopping and not buying anything...
I have definitely considered the quartz version. If it hand no seconds hand I’d do it but it’s just that tick.. I am not enough of a fan to drop that much cash on a watch with a ticking seconds hand.

Bespoke watches start at £16k....

I haven't got the widest experience on the matter but that's rather good value compared to the small scale high end watch makers I know. I've always factored about £25k for a simple hand made movement watch.
The chap I know best starts at 23k euros for a manual wind which normally takes him about two months to make. Up to a year full time for something with complications.

This is the other. Which I mainly got for the bracelet. Ridiculously good. $310 for the pair. Can't argue with that...

Love it.

Nice to see a small scale renaissance in British watch making.
Mostly appears to be restoration work tbh. I don't think there is an entirely British made watch sadly at the moment.
It would be nice to see some one in clerkenwell start up..it has an illustrious watch making history that dates back centuries...there was a pocket watch case maker around who's family had been doing it for several generations but i suspect he's gone now, watch making was considered about 12 seperate trades at one stage when they were hand made. -

Roger Smith might be the only person making a complete watch by hand in Britain at the moment. But I think Bremont have said their long-term goal is to manufacture their own movements in the UK.

That's very, very nice. Good buy. Comfortable? Clasp shot?

awesome JB :-)

Good find dude, their late 70s bracelets are so cool, this is my Lord Quartz... sharp as you like and the watch was sub £100.
In other news my patience finally paid off and I’ve just fitted a NOS Omega clasp and slightly used OEM alligator strap to my Speedy. This combo would set you back £500 (!) from an AD so I’ve had to scour eBay and forums for six months to get what I felt was value!

What's the model number on that bracelet?
Lug measurements would be ace too...That would suit my lord matic perfectly...
-
• #33395
@soul It’s one of these wrap around jobbies. Lug width is 18mm. Bracelet ref is XQB 640L. There's some similar ref's here but not finding much for mine. Mine is also from 1979 rather than 1972 like those mentioned in the article. The watch ref is: 9923-8050.
@inchpincher - That Speedmaster is just perfection.
@J0nathan - incredibly. Without a doubt the most comfortable watch I have ever worn. Partly because of its diminutive size but it's also incredibly light and the bracelet conforms to your wrist shape like no other.

I've gone down a vintage Seiko/KS/GS rabbit hole and I'm not sure how long it's gonna take to get out... For such cheap watches they bring so much joy.
Reddit.com/u/karlenko123 is the guy I got these off. He has many, many, many vintage Seiko's. I've asked him about a couple of bits and the prices he gave were 50% of the price in the U.S... -

Bro I’m somewhere in that warren too, if I didn’t blow my fund on that Seamaster. There’s a couple of eBay GS’s I’m kicking myself over. Waiting for the really good condition, unmolested, unpolished stuff takes time though.
Was out bid on this a little while back... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F332973568627 -

Can't find that user anywhere...
Thanks for the bracelet info - nothing for sale currently but i'll keep an eye out.

So nice. Need something like this in my life. Vacheron Constantin 222 is still my grail, but need to get realistic and think about something with an integrated bracelet that's (a lot) more attainable.

Sorry - I've just updated the username. Put a zero instead of an o by accident.
These are really nice, I’ve tried this and the champagne version. The case is killer with the high polish on the top. I couldn’t wear it on the stock bracelet though, just don’t think it matches the watch in any way. Stick it on leather and you’d have vintage GS vibes for days. But with spring drive, mmm.
