Continental gatorhardshall 25mm - which are a little heavy but I don’t think that’s the problem.

Interesting. I have persevered with it because, as you say, it should be great. Did you use for cross as well as on the road?
-
• #10954
Curious as to why you went for a cross frame to run 25c tyres in. Also hardshells suck, its not the weight that is the problem.

Fitting a bike with a clincher Gatorskin is like killing a puppy.

I can't think of a more exciting wet weather tyre!
-
• #10957
Used it for cross to start with but it has turned into a bike to commute on. So replacement tyres is the answer?
-
• #10958
Not necessarily. I haven't ridden a caadx so can't comment specifically but they won't be helping
-
• #10959
Definitely try new tyres, hardshells feel deader than even normal gatorskins.
Vittoria hypers might be a good option for a higher volume commute tyre that feels pretty nice. -

Not true - cross bikes feel a shitload of fun on the road, particularly with 40C nobblies, they just don’t function as a road bike particularly well!

anyone on here who rides a F Si 5 (the one with Sram NX Eagle 1 x 12)?

F Si 5
I have a Carbon 2 from 2015.
Ultimately it's an XC race bike. It's light and moderate-to-terrifying when used for borderline gnarly stuff. But for all day rides and fast flowy natural trails it's fun. Hence I'm still riding mine.
The offset rear wheel is kinda annoying but stops you from buying junk system wheel sets because they are going cheap on wiggle.

Thanks, @Howard
I was asking because yesterday my LBS called me to say Cannondale was going to keep my 2016 CAADX (it had an annoying vibrating rear when braking) as they couldn't find a way to fix it. As a compensation they offered me a voucher to the amount of the original purchase price (2000 €). Not bad for a 2 year old bike. :-) Thank you Cannondale. So there I stood in the shop with this voucher and the LBS offering me a 2018 FSi 5 (with 2x11 XT/SLX) for 1600 €. It was so tempting that this morning I bought it.

I can think of worse impulse purchases!

This is it. Actually glad it's the 2018 version as I prefer 2x11 above 1x12. And cables run on the outside so no tinkering when replacing gear cables.

And you can fit a proper Lefty, none of that single crowned lefty nonsense.

Or have a working suspension fork
Cross bikes feel a bit joyless on the road, compared to road race bikes.
