  • @maynardeames the Volare has had a tapered headtube for the last two years, the models with 44mm headtube are well old.

They’ve made a fork that everybody wants. And nobody else seems to make. Of course they will place it a high price point. That’s how running a successful company works.

I would guess that the steerer is straight, as making it work in a tapered/oversized head tube is possible, but making a tapered fork work in a straight 1 1/8 head tube is not. I’m no bicycle component designer though.

  • It's probably cheaper to do a straight steerer than a tapered one. So you get cheaper frames. And once you feel like upgrading you can buy our £300 fork, and none of these Chinese imports. Win-win

  • Marginally, head tubes are like a tenner

  • i Doubt the cost of headtube itself has anything to do with it, more the fact that mitering a a downtube to fit a tapered headtube is a much more time consuming task than it is for a straight headtube.

  • Longer yeah, not sure by how much with the scale of production genesis have. Quite easy (so I’ve read) with a simple template

  • Think reasons for that fork are a bit more simple. All Crux DuFers are 1 1/8. Its almost the first thing people upgrade. I did when I bought mine in 2011. Big market there for after sales. Easy also to fit to a tapered/44m headtube as well. Win all round.

Will 95% of customers notice its a 1 1/8" fork in their tapered frame? Hmmm...

  • But why flat mount then, if none od cdfs never had one...

  • Yeah good point.... well most db setups are flat mount now so sounds like genesis are covering as many bases as possible.

  • Ecause post mount is dead.

    Current CDF is flatmount.

  • CDFs have been flatmount for the past couple of years or so. I'm guessing this is pretty much just an upgrade option for their new 853 CDF which is still straight steerer, a 1 1/8th carbon fork is still a lot more common than tapered steel forks.

Also, anything cage mounts are not rack mounts. Don't quite a few companies already make a fork like his?

  • Don't quite a few companies already make a fork like his?

Can't think of any with straight steerers. Tapered, yes.

  • yeah i sorta meant with tapered, which seems to be what people are surprised to see genesis haven't done?

  • Ribble CGR 725 looks like the new Cdf, no? Flat mount, 725, tapered headtube, full carbon fork etc

  • 2 years becomes will old? - this is something that seems to be right of the industry and I think it sucks.

Yeah I get that, but £350 is a lot imo, fyxation Sparta is my comparison at £255 in alu/carbon and about £325 in full carbon - straight or tapered, mounts and multiple axle types.

  • You could get that fyxation one then?

No one is forcing you to buy the Genesis fork. As a consumer you have the choice to buy or not buy something if you don’t agree with the price it sells for.

  • Yes, that’s the one I would buy. Of course the consumers choice, just my thoughts!

  • Along with the price, I'd argue the other issue with the forks is 40c clearance.

  • Yeah I think missed a trick there....

  • How big does a CDF frame fit?

  • I wouldn't go much above a 38mm tyre on my 2016 edition.

  • I would guess that the steerer is straight, as making it work in a tapered/oversized head tube is possible, but making a tapered fork work in a straight 1 1/8 head tube is not. I’m no bicycle component designer though.

    Bang on.

Easy to find adaptor to run straight fork in tapered steerer.

  • But why flat mount then, if none od cdfs never had one...

Good question - you can just run flat mount to post mount instead, which allow a much bigger choice of callipers.

  • My friend used to get 42 in the back 45 front - this was tight though

  • 42 in the back 45 front
