if anyone is interested, I pulled myself together, pulled out of the Radford purchase and pulled my nappy up and put the Pioneer on eBay. Whilst I would love to hear my LDR pre through a Radford power amp and out through my tannoys, some perspective was required.
The Tube Technology Unisis is in for a service/recap/new valves & finding a fault in the phono board. This will cost a bit more than expected, but I can then sell the Pioneer (which I might regret), the Trilogy phono stage and the MC cart, and the task of fitting everything up on a shelf will be complete.
I have gone around the houses to sort it, but heard some pretty cool shit in the process.
£100 says that by the time I am able to revisit the Radford power amps again, they are worth three times what I would have paid for this one.

In my never-ending quest to make the best of an odd-shaped room with corner AV unit and L-shaped sofa - and having tried everything from floorstanders to a soundbar and sub - I'm pretty sure the best compromise is a stereo pair mounted two-thirds of the way up the wall opposite the most-used sofa.
So I'm looking for a speaker which will tolerate being in a corner, not far from the walls and ceiling, and ideally not need a sub. Being where they are, the smaller, the better.
What should I look at for my £300 budget?

I'm not sure why I'm so resistant to Sonos but I think it's a combination of snobbery, cost and a belief that it's just so overrated. I have to admit that the soundbar/satellites/sub combo I heard at Richer sounded pretty damned good but the sub is £700!
I think the Yamaha MusicCast multiroom system is a very strong proposition and I want to find a solution within that. Might look at the new Monitor Audio Monitor 50 speakers which look like they are intended for wall-mounting and will murder a pair of Play:1s for less money (cost of amp not included, obvs).

sure ok. But the point is that first and foremost you need speakers that will work with the room which means either flat panel, surface / ceiling mounted or something like (but not necessarily) a Sonos solution. In any case, you likely need a wide dispersal speaker. Just putting a pair of regular bookshelf speakers on wall brackets is likely to give you all sorts of problems. The MA50s in a regular listening setup will indeed outperform Sonos etc., but I suspect not in your room.
The Sonos and MusicCast (and Denon Heos) are designed with this kind of profile in mind. I'm not a fan myself but for such an oddly shaped room I would say it's your best option.

Not really audiophile but I just put up some audio panels and bass traps in my studio and the difference is wild. Everything sounds much tighter and more focussed, with what appears to be a significantly more even bass response. I’ve only got the rear wall and L/R reflection points in for now but once I’ve got the ceiling cloud up I’ll take some measurements to quantify it.
What’s really freaky is putting your ear to a panel, it’s like you’ve lost hearing in that ear! -
