That's a really good idea. I'll give it a go. Also, thanks for the LBS suggestions; that'll be Plan B. Not entirely sure on 'good terms', as I think I usually offend them with my 'functional' offerings!

If it's a steel fork you could insert a star-fangled nut at the bottom and use an M5 as a daruma bolt of sorts. As a spacer I used a cork.
