  • i guess it's so they can have a horizontal top tube while maintaining reasonable standover?
i've got a quite big stack of spacers under the stem on mine...as have most of the other builds i've seen.
i guess it gives the option for maximum slammage though?!

  • Croix de fer carbon fork..

    Still 1.1/8th, boring!

  • the option for maximum slammage though?!

Who is doing this? Its a heavy steel tourer. Nobody is racing on one

  • I would. Gravelbikes often have too long headtube for my short legs.

  • As per Surly I don't see why a short headtube is a bad thing in itself, not all bikes are designed to be build with a slammed stem. Plus I guess it gives the option of having flat bars (on the next size up from what you would have with drops) with enough standover clearance.

  • Yes I realise that, and see as many Stragglers set up flat bar as drop bar, so thats obviously the thinking behind it.

  • EDIT. @amey posted above

  • It said before @motoko edited. £340 or something

  • Here is the full text I edited out

Another #icebike2019 show highlight for us and coming later this year, a new aftermarket fork for the Croix de Fer that we hope will tick a lot of boxes for those looking to switch to a carbon option.
    .
    Spec:

    • 24T Carbon
    • 12mm thru axle
    • Dynamo routing
    • Flat mount
    • 'Anything Cage' mounts
    • 40c tyre clearance
    • 50mm offset
    • 1 1/8 steerer
    • Due August 2019.
    • SRP £349.99 (inc axle, topcap and carbon expanding wedge).
  • Jeez that’s way pricey.

  • Bikepacking with carbon forks stays expensive.

  • Carbon is stronger than steel yo

  • I was on the fence of getting one because I can get my preferred (for gravel) 600/400-ish stack and reach. I find most gravel bikes absurdly tall MAMIL chariots

  • Crikey, that's close to double what I was hoping for.

  • And?
I was hoping for a sub 200 carbon fork with eyelets for all the desperate people mounting their anything cages with rubber straps and whatnot.

  • I figured you meant that you would need to buy again in the future by "stays expensive". As in it would break but wrong assumption on my part.

  • What is the fork a-c for a genesis croix de fer frame?

  • I don't get the 1 1/8th thing. Market has moved to larger stuff and most people that can afford these are obviously putting them on swanky bikes, which tend to not be 1 1/8th....

  • Presumably just for retrofitters. Not wanting to leave their historical customers behind?
I would hazard a guess that there will be new tapered options too, just that they’re teasing with this one which isn’t officially announced yet

  • That would make sense, but Genesis have hardly pursued new standards quickly. If this one is 350, I dread to think what the tapered one will be!

  • They do the equilibrium in tapered, and the volare in 44mm, I’m lost, to me it’s common sense.

Then they go bring out that nasty steel bolt through fork... no one wants that!
