WTD: 55cm (ish) commutery steel road bike

  • I'm looking to surprise my friend from Canada who is moving to London with a bike she can use to commute. Definitely needs clearance/capability for mudguards and back rack. She's used to risers for handle bars but could get used to drops I bet. Not adverse to a mixte, though not specifically looking for that really. She's 5' 9". Something steel. Also doesn't have to be fully built, looking for just frames as well. She is used to a rust bucket Raleigh.

  • I'd suggest something a little smaller than 55.
I ride 56s at 6"1 albeit with a long stem but not overly long seatpost extension.

  • I have this for sale.

    £250 for frame/fork/wheels/mudguards/handlebars/stem/headset

  • oh damn concorde is a dream, I'd love to take that on. It's over my budget thinking about what else I'd have to put on it. I'm but a lowly grad student, but thanks for the post!

  • You could literally finish it for another £50

  • Hi,

I have a couple just returned from University duties. Both need a little TLC but are cheap.
£40 collected from Harrow eves/weekends or Kings Cross during working hours
    1st isn't steel,
    45cm seat tube 54cm top tube c-c. 700c wheels
Needs a new chain. 21 speed grip shift gears

2nd steel east European copy of a Raleigh as far as I can tell. 26x1 3/8 tyres Sturmey 3 speed. 53cm seat tube 54cm top tube.
if your friend isn't called Catherine the stickers are easy to remove.
The basket and font carrier now on another bike.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Would you be interested in a bike of about that size, rusty from being outside too long, will need a lot of work, but with mudguards and rack? For free just to find it a new home rather than chuck it. If so I will take some pics and measure up, but pretty sure it is that size. It is a road bike but is missing its handlebars, so some risers could be a good replacement.

EDIT: I've measured it, it looks more like 60cm.
