The internet fixes recommend cooking oil to help loosen it. I assume being eatable makes it safer/preferable.
Vinegar is what I had. And it was the cleaning variety rather than an aged balsamic.
You do make a good point about the seals. A bit like motorbike caliper pistons(?). To clarify the concern was over drain cleaners rather than vinegar.
But yeah I will see if I can get something else, have a crack then call Miele.

Depends on the cleaner - sulphuric / sulphamic acid, or sodium hydroxide based, and on the type of rubber.
