• Hiya,

I'm new to the cycling world and am not sure where to look for bikes - a friend has recommended here.

I am trying to find a 53cm single speed bike, ideally I'd like an older 'vintage' frame, something thats in good riding condition already but that I can slowly add too and improve as a project (when I have the funds!)
My budget is £150.00. Is it possible?

Can anyone help suggest where to look?

Truly appreciate it ! Thank you !

  • I'm looking for something similar if anyone has anything?
    Sorry to thread piggy back!

  • Slightly bigger than you state. £100 more expensive too, but, from the description of what you seek, a good starting point perhaps...

Otherwise, ebay’s always a good option, in terms of full bikes for not too much money.

  • I have a late 1940s holdsworth La Quelda, which is 54 cm I have enough vintage kit to build a complete bike, SS or fixed £150 is doable just

  • Some pics

  • Best to build your own honestly it’s simples to do and you get exactly what you want highly recommend it

For £150 you can get a decent frame and say £150 for kit plus wheels

  • Plum 53cc
    Bit more then your budget

  • Hey thanks all for commenting with options.

Thinking about it I would prefer a bike that has been made up completely but that I can add to in time. I am aware that this will cost more than £150.00 so I am open to raising my price.

If you know of anything else please let me know! Cheers!

  • Look at Hackney cycles for £170 you get a complete bike
    https://www.hackney-cycles.co.uk/singlespeed-fixie

  • Then after you can build it up :)
You’ll love a single speed make sure you get your gear ratio correct so it’s not too hard or too easy to pedal - this depends on how your main crank number of teeth vs rear wheel cog number of teeth and tyre size are set up

  • Bit of a push calling that a bike.

  • Yeah ideally best to get a proper frame but in budget of £150 it’s very tight not impossible but very tight

  • I got my commuter (Specilized singlecross) for £175, you can do it but may need to wait for something to come up. If @Finners105 keeps his eye out should be able to bag a kona paddywagon or genesis flyer for ~£200.

  • Finners105 the pictures I posted are just a selection of parts that will be going into the build, of
Course it would be a complete bike ready to ride when finished, obviously I am not going to build it
    Up unless you are buying

  • I’ve got a complete 531 frame bike, currently set up as a fixed with flat bars, but can convert to ss if needed. Think it’s a 54cm, I’ll go and have a look and take some pics. £150 might be a bit low tbh but I’ll have a think.

  • Yup, it’s a 53cm. Almost new Sugino Messenger chainset, hubs have just had new sealed bearings fitted. Frame looks tatty but is sound. Good tyres etc.

  • Hey this looks pretty good, am I able to come and try it for size before making any changes? I think I’d want to make it SS , so we can discuss prices etc.

  • Sorry, only just seen your reply. Yeah, no worries. I’m in Thornton Heath near Crystal Palace FC. I’ve got parts to make it SS, freewheel, brake and lever, also a Cinelli drop bar cockpit if you prefer that. PM me and we can discuss.
