Has anyone put proper touring / audax distance on big 650b tires?
I'm planning a few 300km plus rides this year and I'm worried the tires will roll too slow/the bike will be too heavy...been looking at Caad 5s again.
Pump em up to road tyre pressures and they’ll roll quick. I did 150 on 700x42s not so long ago and that was no more difficult than on 25s I thought
I converted my 700c road bike to 650b for audax type riding.
The og 650b bikes were randonneur bikes ... which is basically a french audax. Tyres around 30-42mm.
Audax and touring on 650b, from 38mm to a hefty 50mm.
Much better suited than 700c of similar sizes (especially in term of weight, strength and speed).
A little under 300km on Switch Back Hill extralights. A few gravel/singletrack 250kms on ThunderBurt liteskins. Both tubeless orangeseal endurance.
Yes they roll slower than a 700x35 for example. I'm just riding along looking around at things.
