Disagree with you both. He's in the process of making a successful car company. And launching rockets. And redefining transport as we know it. He's reignited everyone's fascination with space again and strangely we need it as a species to survive. He's a bit of a showman but so what?
And the PayPal thing, so what? He's taken his winnings off that and made something of it.
Tesla is also forced other manufacturers to get on board. Reduce our carbon footprint.

He really is a no-mark bellend. He reckons he has (or is in the process of) "changing the world". He partly brought PayPal to the world but didn't even invent that. So I think that puts him somewhere behind the person who came up with Switch. And since then he's basically failed to build a profitable car company.
